By David Booth (a bit of a hottie) who sez:
This is the sceptical eye of my painting entitled ‘perfect imperfection’. It is the largest painting I’ve made for some time and follows me from studio to studio. It stands as a reference and a reminder to me of a certain pallet whose progression founded the roots/origin of an on-going investigation into portraiture.

The University Of Alberta set the record (for the third year in a row) last week, pitting 4,979 students against one another for an hour (one team had a one player advantage). There’s footage of the opening minute of the game here.

atThe reason for the radical reappraisal of ice melting in Asia is the different ways in which the current and previous studies were conducted. Until now, estimates of meltwater loss for all the world’s 200,000 glaciers were based on extrapolations of data from a few hundred monitored on the ground. Those glaciers at lower altitudes are much easier for scientists to get to and so were more frequently included, but they were also more prone to melting.

atTHE SUPPLY of rental properties has fallen and rents are on the rise despite a continuing fall in house prices, according to the latest report from property rental website Daft.ie.
Average national rents for 2011 were down by 0.7 per cent. However, January 2012 has seen a marginal 0.4 per cent increase on the same month last year, putting rents at almost the same level as in December 2009.
The number of properties available has fallen by 5.7 per cent in 2011, primarily in Dublin, where the number of properties available to rent has fallen by almost 1,000 over the year. Overall, the supply of rental properties is at a 3½-year low.
Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton said the failure of rents to fall in line with house prices supported her decision to cut social welfare rent supplement.
Hang on. Fewer rental properties. Rents rising. Rent supplement cut.
Damn, who’s got a calculator?

atSome Irish members of the Reddit community are justifiably tearing us a new one for quoting humungous chunks of Fintan O’Toole and Conor Brady‘s articles in the last two days. And by doing so offering ‘old media’ a perfect example of the wanton anarchy of some elements of the ‘new media’. We have removed the text in each piece bar a paragraph to give some flava. The quotage was larcenously excessive.
