I’ve just finished printing ‘Albert, Ernest & the Titanic’, my letterpress book created at Distillers Press in the National College of Art and Design for my MA in Visual Communication. All the illustrations were cut by hand and all the type was set by hand. Rich Gilligan has just shot the promo video (above). The book is on exhibition during the NCAD graduate show opening June 8th.

The National Asset Management Agency overpaid for the loans it acquired from five Irish banks and will struggle to recover the €32 billion it paid to the lenders and its costs, the Comptroller and Auditor General has said. The latest report from the State’s budgetary watchdog said that even after writing down loans by 57 per cent on their original value, the price paid by the agency represents “State aid” of more than a fifth of this to the banks, or a subsidy of €6 billion.

Thanks for putting up our Liam Doran Campervan video before. It now has nearly 6,000 views! Here’s part deux. With Ireland’s first pre-Euros friendly just a day away, we speak to Irish fan Davy Keogh about his travel plans and what it’s like to be a diehard Irish supporter. From nearly buying a 52-seater off some shamin Kerry, to running amok when away, he’s another interesting character.

You might have noticed that RTE has deemed Ireland’s finest painting to be Hellelil and Hildebrand, the Meeting on the Turret (above).
It’s a nice painting sure, and yeah it really probably is “Ireland’s favourite painting”, but my lord is it ever bland, bland, bland, the kind of twee, chaste sentimentality you’d expect a mostly Catholic country to go for.
Surely we can do better than that? Frankly I’ve a better painting in my living room (this by Sophie Iremonger). So if I may be so bold as to propose a contest on your site today to see if we can have an alternative Ireland’s favourite painting?
The only rule being that the painting has to be in Ireland but not housed in a museum. What do you think?
Over to you.
