Thought you might be interested to hear an interview with the Jax Banksy aka Dublin-based artist Mick Minogue that was on Culture File on RTÉ Lyric fm yesterday. In it, Mick talks about giving physical form to memes including his deadly Nyan Cat piece for Gallery 1988 in LA (above) And I’m pretty confident it was the first (and probably last!) time the Nyan Cat theme was played on Lyric!

Just this:

“The parallels between Spain and Ireland are striking. Just like Ireland, Spain had a credit boom financed mostly with external debt, which meant that the balance sheets of their banks are now stuffed with bad debts as asset values collapse. Both governments have now injected billions into these ailing banks, to the detriment of their respective debt profiles.

“The Spanish Prime Minister has become preoccupied with creating market confidence, as was the Irish Prime Minister in the run up to the EU/IMF bailout. Confidence talk may buy some time, but ultimately it doesn’t make the problem go away. The accent heard today in Madrid has a distinct Irish lilt to it. The script is the same. First, deny the problem. Second, underplay its size. Third, look for external help to solve it once you have promised what you cannot deliver.”

‘Tod Umptious’ warns:

So there I was all set to finally buy a new Macbook Pro (retina display etc) last night when I discovered the prices were crazy- not Apple’s usual crazy but plain weird crazy. After some detective work (ie two tabs open at the same time) I discovered that the US dollar price is far lower than the Irish euro price making a conversion even lower. In fact it looks almost like our honest to God Irish prices are in fact the dollar price- 1099 euro for an 11″ Air (above) when yesterday the price was 999. And across the pond it now reads as 999 dollars even though yer man on the stage said it was 1099 dollars.
Sorry if that makes no sense but thought I’d bring it up in case people even worse than me are on there now actually buying at those prices.
