Miriam O’Callaghan will host the Irish/American entertainment spectacular that will kick off the American Football season in Ireland. The 90-minute Friday concert will combine a traditional Notre Dame pep rally with performances from some of Ireland’s top musical talent including Brian Kennedy, Damien Dempsey, Eimear Quinn and The High Kings. The Notre Dame Band and Folk Choir will perform and the night will also celebrate the football played by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Stuntman Troy Hartman’s aerial test of his personal jetpack made from modified UAV mini jet engines is a bit long winded but pretty spectacular.

In the second video, however, made early last year, he gets straight down to business accelerating to 47mph (76kph) at half throttle on skis.

This will almost certainly feature in a Bond movie someday.

A PROPERTY tax based on house valuation is set to be in force by the middle of next year as part of the troika bailout programme.

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan yesterday insisted the system had not been finalised, but the Cabinet has agreed the tax will form part of December’s budget.

“It’s very hard on people – there’s no doubt that people are paying the price of what happened at the peak of the Celtic Tiger . . . I’m not making light of it. The issues are very serious and the burden being put on our fellow citizens is a very serious burden and they are having tough times.

“All I can say is if we stick with it, we are going to work our way through it.”

Indeed.
