He can’t see.

It’s a Wonder he’s even alive.

Cat’s Aid writes:

A very urgent appeal. Stevie was born blind. Last year he came to us after nearly being knocked down by a car. We believe he’s 8 -12 yrs old. We are looking for a longterm foster or ideally forever home for him to live out the rest of his years in peace and quiet. He would need a quiet, laid-back, strictly indoor-only home (preferably with an enclosed garden).
Stevie doesn’t know he is blind and can do all the things every other cat can do. If you’re interested in giving him a forever home/sofa and having your life turned around by this amazing cat who is full of love then please call our helpline 01-6683529

(L-R) Jonathan Bell MLA, Prodsy Bear, Cllr Ruth Patterson, Health Minister Edwin Poots MLA)

Ruth Patterson

DUP councillor Ruth Patterson arriving at court earlier in Belfast to face charges of sending ‘an electronic message that was grossly offensive’ (above). Her supporters in court included MLA Jonathan Bell and Health Minister Edwin Poots.

She issued an apology after the issue came to light:

“I unreservedly apologise for this lapse of judgement. I completely withdraw this flawed Facebook comment. Murder and terrorism can never be justified in any circumstances. To descend to such a level would be to repeat the actions of those we stood against during the dark days of Northern Ireland’s Troubles.

“My ill-judged comment is completely incompatible with the polices of the Democratic Unionist Party and what is expected of me as an elected representative. I recognise that my careless comments fall short of the standards expected of anyone holding a responsible post. I deeply and sincerely apologise.”

The DUP followed up with a statement:

“Ruth’s comment was completely unacceptable and not in keeping with the party’s policies or the standard of behaviour required of our members,” said a party spokesman. “Whilst the officers of the party will clearly be looking at this issue they will take account of her subsequent statement.”

If her comment and standard of behaviour was so unacceptable, why such a show of support?

“The Irish newspaper industry has taken another battering with a further drop in sales in the first half of the year. Figures released by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) show all daily and Sunday newspapers losing ground.”
“The Irish Times fell the most of any national paper, dropping 9% to 84,201 copies a day. When bulk, or free copies distributed to the likes of hotels and airlines are excluded, it was selling just 71,879 copies.”
“The Irish Independent fared better falling 3.9% to an average of 121,120 copies a day, down from 125,986 a year ago. Its actual full price sales were 101,804 copies.”
…
“The Irish Examiner dropped 5.8% to 37,897 copies; The Evening Herald fell 4.3% to 58,545 copies and the Cork Evening Echo plunged 12.3%.”

Ouch.
