Designed by Benjamin Garcia Saxe and overlooking the Pacific ocean at Puntarenas in Costa Rica, the ‘Casa Flotanta’ is a steel framed wooden house on a steep gradient designed to capture a magnificent vista with minimum impact on the wildlife and vegitation.

Unlike neighbouring homes which are cut into the hillside with retaining walls, the lightweight, modular casa flotanta sits above it on stilts.

[Margaretta D’Arcy, who was jailed on January 15]

Galway Independent writes:

The Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW) is calling on Galway people to join them in tying yellow ribbons on trees in Galway’s Eyre Square tomorrow, Tuesday, February 4, at 1pm to call on the Irish Government to pursue the path of peace, by releasing Margaretta D’Arcy and “ending Ireland’s significant role in the wars of the past 12 years by closing the US military hub at Shannon Airport.”

Luke Sweetman writes:

My name is Luke, I’m part of Little Beast, a new company that makes all kinds of video – shorts, music videos, documentaries, etc. We are a group of individuals, staying in Ireland to make a go of it before we sink beneath the oceans of climate change, or emigrate. We launched our showreel, above, and we wanted to ask you to help people see it – and then come give us work! The video may even entertain you as it shows people doing stupid/entertaining/sad things.

You may recall Deirdre Mullins, who made a radio documentary last November about a friend who conceived during lunch, via a Danish sperm donor, called Pregnant on my Lunchbreak.

She has now made a short film documentary, called Going The Distance, about her father.

Deirdre writes:

“I made about my father, a running addict who was diagnosed with cancer. It won the audience award at the Dingle Film Festival last year. I’ve just posted it on vimeo this morning and would be very grateful if you would share it.”
