A new ad campaign by Y&R New Zealand for razor company Schick – the aim being to encourage the hipster about town to shave before their facial hair becomes ‘beastly’.

Fail. We want a ferret beard this minute.

According to the ‘creatives’:

…several test comps were done initially to explore the size, type, color & position of the animal. we settled on a mixture of ferrets for the limbs, face & tail & rabbits for the softer fuller fur of the body.  our menagerie consisted of 6 ferrets & 9 rabbits, all various colors….the rabbits were the best looking of the bunch although the ferrets had all the personality & a rather… unique… smell about them.’

Here’s how they composed the images.

The Lonely Beast

Michigan based photographer Vincent Brady uses a four-camera rig and a plethora of edit software to create what he describes as ‘planetary panoramas’: to wit, tiny planets appropriately set against the starry night sky. Sez he:

While experimenting with different photography tricks and techniques back in 2012, I was shooting 360 degree panoramas in the daytime and long exposures of the stars streaking in the sky at night. It suddenly became clear that the potential to combine the two techniques could be a trip! Since the Earth is rotating at a steady 1,040 mph I created a custom rig of 4 cameras with fisheye lenses to capture the entire night-sky in motion. Thus the images show the stars rotating around the north star as well as the effect of the southern pole as well and a 360 degree panorama of the scene on Earth. Each camera is doing nonstop long exposures, typically about 1 minute consecutively for the life of the camera battery. Usually about 3 hours. I then made a script to stitch all the thousands of these panoramas into this time-lapse.

Underground Route Option and Overhead Route Corridor Option

In response to pylon opposition.

The “preferred route” of a possible underground EirGrid cable running along the existing road network from north Mayo to Flagford in Co Roscommon.

“EirGrid has said the cable would run between Crossmolina and Ballina, down the east side of Lough Conn, northeast of Foxford and north of Charlestown, Ballaghaderreen and Frenchpark to the Flagford substation area, southwest of Carrick-on-Shannon. The company plans to hold public meetings in towns along the route next month. Both overground and underground options will then be reviewed by the Government appointed independent panel, before any further progression of the Grid West project….”
