Flouride Free Towns writes:

Clonakilty in West Cork has become the second town in Ireland to achieve fluoride free status as part of the Fluoride Free Towns movement.

Huge congratulations go out to the people and business owners who have collectively worked together to realise the objectives as set out for this local public health initiative.

ICS Colour Dash 07Fair City actor George McMahon with Douglas and Alexandra Kelly, from Dublin, at the launch of the Irish Cancer Society’s Colour Dash 5k this morning

Caoimhe Butler, from the Irish Cancer Society, writes:

“The ‘Colour Dash’ 5k is returning to the Phoenix Park in Dublin on July 26 – following a sold-out event last year. The unique 5k ‘dash’ will see participants of all ages running, walking or jogging the course. ‘Dashers’ will start the route wearing a white t-shirt that is quickly transformed into a colourful work of art. At each kilometre, a different colour – representing a different cancer – of powder paint will be thrown at participants, creating a kaleidoscope of colour. 100% of the money raised from the Colour Dash will go towards the Irish Cancer Society’s work to help people reduce their risk of getting cancer, to support those living with cancer and supporting on-going research into better ways to diagnose and treat cancer.”

boarfish

‘sup?

The Boarfish.

Always in the way.

There is a great deal of publicity regarding the new fish processing factory in Killybegs, Co Donegal, and the fact that boarfish are to be the principal feedstock of this enterprise. Not wanting to pour cold water on the enterprise, but these fish are presently viewed as a nuisance catch in mackerel fisheries. Try telling that to the larger species which live on them.
Would it not be better if the present system of discards was harnessed to provide an ethical and environmental friendly source of feed stocks rather than pillaging yet another valuable and unappreciated natural asset?

Harry Crosbie

Harry Crosbie

Mary Carolan, of The Irish Times, reports:

Nama decided to enforce loans of some €77 million against businessman Harry Crosbie because he failed to disclose substantial assets when asked to provide details of all assets held by himself and his family to the agency, the Commercial Court has heard.
Mr Crosbie also incorrectly told Nama he had no uncharged assets with the effect the agency provided some €32 million taxpayer’s money to complete the Point Village development when, in fact, Mr Crosbie did hold unencumbered assets, Mr Justice David Keane was told.
Mr Crosbie also misappropriated monies from companies which should have gone to Nama, Paul Sreenan SC, for Nama, said…The case continues.
