What you may need to know.

1. CBS have released 50 seconds-worth of nondescript CG as an early taster for the in-development Star Trek TV show.

2. The cast is yet to be announced, but reboot writer Alex Kurtzman is producing.

3.
It’s rumoured that this new series will be set in between The Undiscovered Country and The Next Generation.

4. Star Wars/Star Trek… It’s all good. There’s plenty of room for everyone at the all-you-can-eat nerd buffet. Except Kevin Smith. He’s barred.

5.
CBS will air Star Trek in January 2017.

7.
Broadsheet Prognosis: Klingon to the past (I’ll get me coat).

We’ll see! As a SF addict I hope this isn’t going to be a letdown like the last film. I’m presumimg this isn’t going to be set on a USS Enterprise since they’ve already got 1701-C and 1701-D covered. Or are they going to set it in the alt universe that the re-booted Star Trek films gave us? There’s no guarantee that they’ll stick to the established canon as Spock being flung back in time trying to save Romulus has skewed everything off on a tangent…

You’re more tuned in than I in fairness :)
I had the drift of those inconsistencies but never heard them summed up like that, fair play ya big nerd ya! :)

Thanks Mr C! However having a head full of starship design and operation has not yet benefited me financially :)

drives me mad – why would you observe star trails when you have not even passed over earth in hyperdrive?? what sort of fictional parallax are they trying to pull? someone get a scientists to CBS ASAP, and delete those titles.

A horrible mess. They will ruin everything good about Star Trek at this rate. I am physically nauseous. And before you start, no I am NOT just saying this because it’s rumoured to not be an all female cast. Star Trek was a big part of my childhood and should never be touched.

In fairness, they’ve already destroyed a lot of the goodwill with voyager and enterprise. It can’t get much worse really. In this case, even an all female version wouldn’t be the worst thing they’ve done to the franchise, although they don’t have a fantastic record in writing female leads lately (How many times have you wished Janeway was a man just so you could punch her)

      1. Caroline

Never. I punch whoever I damn well please.

Good point about their track record with female leads. Just goes to show again why it should not be attempted. Of course the PC police shoot you on sight if you say that, but yeah it’s a fact.

I’m more excited about this than the new movie, to be honest.

Not that that’s a very high bar to clear…

Considering how well Doctor Who’s 50th was celebrated, Star Treks’ is shaping up to be quite underwhelming.
