It seems annoying to me to see some great feat performed on a camogie field and then hear or read that Henry Shefflin might have been proud of that. What nonsense. Let’s hear the media and the Sunday Game say that Briege Corkery would have been proud of something Henry does and stop patting women on the head’.

GPA Chairperson Donal Og Cusack (top) criticises the “poor and patronising” media coverage of camogie at the 2013 All Stars event at the CityWest Hotel, Dublin on Saturday.

The former Cork All-Ireland winner, who had an aunt named on the Camogie Team of the Century, says brilliance and excellence in the game “should be appreciated for what it is and not constantly compared to the mens’ game”.

STICK FIGHT!

ITV Sports last night.

Adrian Chiles: “Martin, the question on everyone’s lips, why choose Roy to work with?”

Martin O’Neill: “I’ve asked myself that many a time in the last couple [of days] or forty eight hours, but he’s coming with me! Personally speaking, it will be great for me, but more importantly it will be great for The Republic Of Ireland.”

Chiles: “Roy?”

Keane:
“Fantastic news, delighted obviously, honoured that Martin’s asked me to come and help with the team. Fully excited – I mightn’t look it, but I am! And looking forward to working with the players in trying to get to the Euros.”

Chiles:
“It’s a Yin and Yang – I don’t know who’s a Yin and who’s a Yang – but it’s a marriage made in heaven – possibly?”

O’Neill:
“Well, I’m the bad cop and I think he’s the bad, bad cop! But I think we’re excited by it, it looks as if we’ve got something to go with, to go forward with – looking forward to it greatly!”

Roy Keane and Martin O’Neill appointments a coup for Republic of Ireland, but don’t expect peace and harmony (Telegraph)

90179792Further to claims by former Ireland manager Brian Kerr that the FAI [Football Association of Ireland] had negotiated with new manager Martin O’Neill while Giovanni Trapattoni was still attempting to get Ireland into the World Cup, FAI chief exectuive John Delaney appeared on Today FM’s The Last Word with Matt Cooper.

Matt Cooper: “When did you start negotations with Martin O’Neill?”

John Delaney: “I suppose in the last week or so – you know, when he confirmed that he confirmed wanted to be manager.”

Cooper: “But when was the approach made? The reason I ask is, Brian Kerr, on this programme last Friday evening said that there was a dinner between a senior FAI person and Martin O’Neill in Shanahan’s {Stephen’s Green, Dublin] the night before the Ireland v Sweden match in the World Cup Qualifiers.”

Delaney: “Well, Brian is wrong there!”

Cooper: “It never happened?”

Delaney: “Brian should apologise for that Matt, I don’t want to put any sour taste in – he’s absolutley bang out of order there! Going into the Sweden game we were still on course to qualify for the World Cup and to make a comment is just bang out of order. He really should apologise for that because that did not happen!”

Cooper: “So Martin O’Neill was not contacted about his availability for the job before Giovanni Trapattoni had stepped down?”

Delaney:
“Absolutely not!”

Not sure if you’re League of Ireland football fans in Broadsheet Towers, but you may be after watching this. It’s RTÉ’s excellent look back on the season. It certainly has me excited for the sequel… the 2014 Airtricity League season.

Stay for the genuinely epic goalage.

The Flyky Smart Wheel.

May put us out of ‘business’.

Kevin McGuinness writes:

It’s a disc that attaches to the rear wheel of a bike allowing the person to reach speeds of up to 20km/ph. It also has a device inside that tells you when your bike is on the move (once the app is downloaded) without you on it. You can then track where the bike is headed.
Great idea and could be very useful to some of the BS readers considering the level of theft these days.
The guys are currently looking for funding through KickStarter and have $216,000 (100,000 being their target) with 20 odd days left. Costs $550 which is a bit steep, but considering it tracks your bike (locks the wheel if stolen), lets you know if something is wrong with the wheel, charges your phone and powers lights all while giving your legs a rest…could be worth it…
