From top: Hawkins Street, Dublin in the 1980s: The Metro Burger sign prepares for its return
Free tonight?
Dublin Ghost Signs writes:
The Metro Burger Dublin sign [formerly of hawkins Street by The Screen on the Green] has been given a new lease of life.
Join us in Lucky’s beer garden [Meath Street, Dublin] to raise a drink to this rare and wonderful thing: a Dublin sign which escaped the skip and has lived to tell the tale!
From ‘7-ish’.
Orla Gartland – Inevitable
The Dublin-born, London-based singer/songwriter is a YouTube sensation with over 210,000 subscribers to her channel and 1.7 million views of her video to last year’s single I Go Crazy.
The 24-year-old makes a cameo appearance as the music teacher in her excellent new video from her recent EP Why Am I Like This?.
Directed by Guy Larsen, it’s both a touching ode to family life and a warning about the dangers of letting Yer Da near a camcorder.
You can catch Orla live at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens this Friday supporting The Academic.
What are the chances she will headline herself there one day?
Nick replies: Inevitable.
Class sizes do matter- i’ve worked abroad with 18 in a class. The difference is amazing. Moved home and after 4yrs I have resigned, will never teach again in the Irish education system. Thank you @McHughJoeTD and your ilk. https://t.co/zJ9L5IAsgd

And no it wasn’t in the UAE (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I loved teaching, I know I am a good teacher but the system here is rotten. ROTTEN. @cooper_m @NewstalkFM @TodayFM

The votes are in.
Last week, with a pair of tickets to see Bill Callahan [also known as Smog] at Vicar Street in September, I asked you to name your favourite song by Bill/Smog.
You answered in your tens.
But there could be only one winner.
Sarah Kennedy deservedly wins the tickets with this heartfelt choice
My favourite Smog song is ‘Rock Bottom Riser’ (above). One of my children had died a few years previously and I was trying to come to terms with the loss. I remember having a very dark day and then I heard this song and it gave me hope and reminded me to reach out to my loved ones for support. I’m doing okay now but I always thank this song for lifting me on that dark day and reminding me to reach out to others when feeling despair.
Thanks all.

Last night.
Nowlan Park, Kilkenny
Meanwhile…
Bob'n'Neil together last night, but keep an eye on the security guy at the front who's telling everyone to stop taking photos and filming. How did he miss the guy who was filming this?https://t.co/RY7kByXpJw

Oh.
Bob Dylan & Neil Young were playing last night and the Das of Ireland descended on Kilkenny. They lost the run of themselves.
I was in a pub after the gig and at about 1 am I went to the jacks to find a man in his late 50s urinating in the sink while smoking a joint….

Ah here.
The Elephant Room – Juniper And Pine
If you’ve ever wanted to see a tutorial on beard-trimming spliced with footage from outer space and vintage film clips soundtracked by melodic 90s-style indie slacker rock then you need to see The Elephant Room’s current video (above).
The Dublin-based trio of Frank Shortle, Shane Martin and Ian Hand will appeal to fans of Pavement and Grandaddy.
It’s time to shed that facial hair.
Nick says: A Shortle back and sides, please.
