A sample of 200 spectacularly reimagined movie posters by more than 100 artists from 20 countries – all featured in a new book, Alternative Movie Posters: Film Art from the Underground (available at the end of this month) compiled by Michael Chojnacki, who sez of it:
The only criteria was that the poster couldn’t have been used in an official theatrical run of the film, And it had to kick ass.

As part of this year’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Toronto – a nighttime art event hosted in the streets of the city – Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has installed a 9 meter high, 30 meter long labyrinth of 3,144 bicycles illuminated with blue and pink lights.
A much larger version of a work exhibited in Taipei last year entitled Forever Bicycles, it reflects the artist’s perception of the rapid pace of Chinese social change. Ai Weiwei couldn’t attend the 2011 exhibition as he faced arrest for his continuing critical stance on Chinese government policy.
Now that’s an artist’s statement.
The exhibition continues in Nathan Phillips Square until October 27th.

The extraordinarily evocative seascapes of the late 19th century Russian painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, one of the greatest marine artists of all time – famed for his ability to capture the sea like no-one else could.
What separates Aivazovsky’s seascape paintings from others is his ability to replicate both the intensity and motion as well as the translucency and texture. His energetic waves and calm ripples are equally effective. Aivazovsky also plays with colors, simulating the effects of sunlight filtering through the waters to present an ethereal quality that imitates a sort of magical realism.

Incredible 3D animals rendered as if by metal shards by South Africa-based Chinese street artist DALeast, who travels the world applying them (illegally) to public spaces with one eye peeled for the local rozzers. Sez he:
Life always give one troubles but my work gives me a lot of opportunity to face these troubles. Any situation can arise when you work in the public space. I hope I am creating illusions through my paintings that can be a switch for people’s minds. I like to express life-emotions and the environment, and use different artistic forms to speak. I prefer people staring at my work without saying any words – it means they are taking it in.
