The Hazrat Sultan mosque in Astana, Kazakhstan – built on a 27-acre site in classic Islamic style with traditional Kazakh ornamentation – opened in 2012 to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the founding of the country’s new capital city.

In case you missed it, the live broadcast event the Discovery Channel has been plugging for weeks took place on Sunday as ‘aerialist’ Nik Wallenda became the first person to wire-walk across the Grand Canyon.
He did it in a 40mph cross-wind on a two inch wide cable with a 43 foot balancing pole and no safety harness. It took him 22 minutes at a nice, steady, Jesus-thanking pace and he ran the last bit.
Next, he wants to cross from the Empire State to the Chrysler building in New York City.
