‘Vignettes of a dysfunctional relationship between two snails’

Gulp.

Participant – Shelter

Bob Gallagher writes:

“A video I directed for my friend Stephen (Participant) for his song Shelter. My Goddaughter Iseult cast the snails from her garden (with her dad) and I shot it with help from the brilliant Deirdre O’Toole. The cast are all safe and sound, and still very cute and very gross in equal measure. …”

The sea.

She be.

Emily writes;

“The crossing to Achill Beg [County Mayo] yesterday – the premiere reading of new 1000 line poem about the island had to be cancelled….”

UPDATE: It WASN’t cancelled…

Padaer MacGiolla writes:

“Against all the odds, reading went ahead. Sixteen had gathered, through an ever increasing storm, landing wet on Achillbeg and trundling against the wind to Jim’s house. Space was as inviting as I had hoped for, warm and white. The Reek in the windows with a tempestuous sea in between. Tea, cake, wine, hot whiskey, poetry. All over by 8pm and then the journey back, with the south east storm this time, but wind even fiercer than in the afternoon. It became an event that anyone who was there will never forget.

“A team of over 80 judges have, over the past month, judged and rejudged over 550 Irish websites to come up with a lists of finalists across 33 categories. Media organisations including The Irish Times, The Irish Independent,The Star, Irish Mirror, Irish Examiner, Q102, 98FM, Spin 1038, Spin South West and Broadsheet have all reached the Final of the Realex Fire Web Awards, now in their 7th year.

….The Realex Fire Web Awards are the only website awards event inIreland where nominations are free, the general public judge the sites, sponsors can’t win and where entry on the night is a fraction of the cost of more formal events. These factors combine to make it a very diverse event  and why the volume of nominations and attendees is so high.”

FIGHT!

The awards are on October 22 in the Ballsbridge Hotel presented by 2FM’s Rick O’Shea. We’ve been invited.

Enda

Enda Kenny with Darragh and Jennifer Loftus in Castlebar, Co Mayo following the 2011 General Election.

In the Dail last week Mr Kenny strongly defended the appointment of his neighbour Darragh Loftus to the board of Solas, the State training agency.
“I am actually sick and tired of a position where we have had a flawed process for years in this country. Because of the flaw in the process, people who want to give service can be labelled as lackeys, hacks or cronies.
“I heard a name on national radio this morning of a young man appointed to a State board who was deemed to be eligible on the basis of having worked in a bar or having supervised a pool room. I know the young man in question,” said Mr Kenny.
“I saw him grow from a primary school lad to the adult he is now. That young man has a B.Sc. honours degree as well as an MA in innovation and management. He did his stint in Brussels. As many other students did, he worked in a bar for the summer.”
Today it can be revealed that Mr Loftus’ sister, Jennifer, also from Castlebar, but based in Galway, was appointed to the board of An Post [a €16,000 a-year-role] on May 6 by then-Communications Minister, Pat Rabbitte. Ms Loftus, who works for Acorn Life in Galway, has worked with Acorn Life since 2003, having graduated from University College Dublin with a first-class degree in actuarial and financial studies.

Good times.

All funds raised from the one-mile dash will go to support “all the little superheroes currently undergoing treatment in the hospital”.
