Badhands – Indian Ocean

Water, water everywhere…

Dublin singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dan Fitzpatrick aka Badhands has recorded a concept EP about the world’s oceans for the Berlin-based label Proper Octopus.

Badhands says:

“Each song on this EP represents one of the five oceans, reflecting a personal interpretation of some of their distinct characteristics; but also linking together with overlapping musical themes to form a broader, singular piece.

“The music uses a mix of instrumentation (harmoniums, piano, orchestral strings, drums, synths) to evoke the pulse of the ocean and its many moods, ranging from calm and serene to explosive and powerful.”

Who triggered Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol without consulting Dublin?

Via Tony Connelly at RTÉ News:

…Several well-placed sources are of the firm view that the text was drafted by an official within the UK Task Force, ie, Michel Barnier’s team.

…The sources say this was not a collective effort by the Task Force, and that Barnier himself, and his chief advisers who were involved in both the Withdrawal Agreement and the recently concluded trade negotiations, were not in the loop.

As such, the belief is that the individual who drafted the text did so at the direction of Ms von der Leyen’s cabinet.

However, another senior Commission source strongly denies this suggestion…

…Whoever was involved at the last minute on Friday, the first Dublin found out about the paragraph was when it broke in the media, around 4pm Irish time. Senior officials in the Department of the Taoiseach had been working on the travel issue when phones began going off…

Behold: the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT: pre-Bond, but similar in looks to its successor, the DB5. The luxurious DB4 was produced from 1958 to 1963 and its GT variant was sportier with a shorter wheelbase, lightweight aluminium panels and a more powerful 302bhp, 3.7-litre engine.

Only 75 were ever made and this vehicle is one of just 30 left hand drive models. Fully restored in 2020 and beefed up with a 4.7-litre engine, it’s expected to fetch at least €2.8 million at auction this Friday.
