Neil Turner (of the Broadsheet Windows Phone app and Bus Nearby) has released his latest Windows Phone app, Fuel Nearby.

Using data from Pumps.ie, it lets you know the price of petrol and diesel as well as the services available in stations close to your current location.

It also lets you save your favourite so you don’t have to go searching for them.

It’s available now on the Windows Phone App Store for free (and with a promise of no ads or in-app purchases in the future).

For iOS and Android users, there are existing apps (by other developers) available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Brought to you by siblings Cormac, Catriona and Colm Barry, trakAx MovieExpress is an impressively fully featured video mixer.

The app scans your device for photos, music and video and lets you edit and mix them together before exporting out as a whole new video.

I did find some of the controls were a bit fiddly to use on my Samsung S3 but I’m sure that’s not a problem on larger screened devices.

It’s available for €4 on the Google Play Store, which seems to me to be extremely cheap for what you get. There’s a free version in the pipeline with a somewhat reduced feature set.

Dublin based developer Kevin Bergin has released this addictive little game for both iOS and Android.

Like the best casual games, the idea is simple. Move your Gooboid (the little greenblue guy) around to gather energy and advance the levels all the while staying as close to but not touching the other Gooboids to get points.

It was so addictive I started carrying my horrible Galaxy S3 again just to play it.

The iOS version (which I only discovered this morning) unfortunately has my absolute bugbear issue of not being sized for the 5/5s/5c sized screen, but plays the exact same as the Android version.

Gooboids is available for free on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Leaving Cert Answers from The Educational Company of Ireland is a nice little helper app for those wretched souls facing into the barrel of a ‘life determining’ exam.

The app provides the answers for the 2005 papers as a sample so you can see the quality before splurging on later years.

Leaving Cert Answers is available now on the Apple App Store with a free sample of the answers available and the rest as in app purchases.

Ger Kelly of Getchoo Creations has created a way for you to experience the roller coaster of startup life with his Hispter CEO app.

There’s now no need to trap yourself in your mother’s basement a cramped smelly office slaving  over your precious world changing idea when you can simulate the realisation that no one actually wants to use your idea (or if you’re really lucky the soaring delights of selling out the man in a billion dollar buyout and retiring to an island).

It also perfectly captures the douchebag brogrammer speak that infests the sector.

Harrumph.

An Android app showing real-time availability of Dublin Bikes.

Creator Warren McAllister writes:

BikeDroid will also find the closest bike or free stand to your current location. As Dublin Bikes is expanded to over 100 locations in 2014 and as other free-bikes schemes roll out across Cork, Limerick and Galway, the app will be extended to support these also.

We’ve featured Tapadoo’s original version of this app before but their new iOS 7 only version is worthy of a post of its own.

Completely redesigned, it raises the bar for transport apps both is terms of looks and ease of use. It takes a minimal amount of taps to set up your stops and once that’s done you’ll get all the information you need at a glance.

It certainly beats the pants off the official offerings.

They’ve even included a few easter eggs for you to discover but they’re not saying where they are.

My Dublin Bus 2 is available on iTunes for €1.79 right now.

We’ve been given 10 free copies to give away:

karl_photoNow that you’ve updated your iPhone to the latest version of iOS that Cupertino has spawned, you’ll be looking for apps that have been built to take full advantage of all the new shiny features.

So here’s a couple of Irish built apps to start you off filling all those empty screens.

Event Post

screen568x568 screen568x568 (1)

Event Post by Keven McCafferty is an app to help you remember when you last did all those dull things you just don’t want to be bothered remembering.

A small form lets you set up an irregular but reoccurring event (like buying heating oil) and simply record when it happens so you can remember far more important things like who’s round it is next time you’re in the pub with your mates.

Available on iTunes for 89c

Goal Streaks

IMG_0896IMG_0898

It takes about 66 days to form a new habit and Goal Streaks by Peer Assembly aims to help you along the way by gently reminding you how you’re doing.

It’s quick and flexible to add in new targets. There’s a lot of joy to be had from ticking things off and seeing a streak build up (or is that just me?).

Available on iTunes for €3.59

Soundwave

activity map profile

We’ve talked about the guys from Soundwave a few times before. They are, as far as we can tell, the only Irish app to have been featured by Apple in their “Designed for iOS 7” section. This is on top of getting selected as an Editor’s Choice on the App Store. They’re great ambassadors for the capability of the IRish tech scene.

They’ve rebuilt the interface from scratch to take full advantage of the new look and feel of iOS and it’s already getting plaudits from the tech press.

Available on iTunes for free (there’s also the an Android version)

(The Broadsheet app will be updated soonish)

publin

screenshot3new

The new mobile application, or ‘app’, from bar listings site publin.ie has arrived.

Sez creator John Geraghty:

When I started doing the website I always had the app in mind. It was the natural progression to allow users to be able to search out the deals as they related to their location. It can be difficult navigating a desktop site if you’re not sure what you want. The geolocation gives people more freedom to easily find the information they need without having to scan through a whole website.

The app will also help you find the perfect pub for your taste. Need a pub with a beer garden? Publin shows you all of the pubs with beer gardens and other facilities – pool tables, pubs serving food, wifi, gluten-free beer, nightclubs – closest to your location.

On iOS and Android.

Soundwave, whose videos we’ve featured before (a dance off and sledding in Dublin) have finally launched their music discovery app on both iOS and Android today for the princely sum of free.

Predicted by everyone’s favourite tax compliant musician, loved by overweight tech-giant founders and championed by government secret exposing newspapers.

The feature that really hooks me is the music map which allows you to draw a shape on the map and see what music people are listening to in that area.

Why don’t you reward these hardworking lads and give their app a go on your preferred device?

Maybe even BUY a song?
