Speaking on RTÉ’s Six One, Mr Martin said forming a government would be difficult, adding that the view of his party was that there are “irreconcilable differences” between Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin.

“I wouldn’t rule out another general election – this is going to be so difficult,” he said.

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Public Expenditure Barry Cowen TD

This afternoon.

“I don’t believe 22 per cent of the vote is a vote of confidence in our ability to govern.

I don’t believe losing a few seats is an indication of success. [Sinn Féin] need to take their ambition seriously now and ensure we get a government from the left.

Her and the left leaning parties should get together, form a government, find the €22 billion and off they go.”

From top Couple Holly Cairns, Social Democrat, and Christoper O’Sullivan, Fianna Fáil, were both elected in Cork South-West

This morning

At the start of the campaign, Holly Cairns said running against her boyfriend was like being in a bad rom-com movie, but at nearly 4am today it had a fairytale ending.

Social Democrat Cairns and her partner Christopher O’Sullivan (FF) were both elected amid incredible scenes in the Clonakilty count centre.

Fine Gael was left without a seat in the constituency, unheard of around these parts….

Fianna Fáil justice spokesman and barrister Jim O’Callaghan advised Former Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams

This morning.

Via Independent.ie:

Mr O’Callaghan yesterday led his party’s attacks on Sinn Féin over its handling of the Paul Quinn murder.

But the Irish Independent has learned the TD, who also works as a barrister, was hired by former Sinn Féin president Mr Adams to act in a defamation action against a national newspaper.

According to court filings, Mr O’Callaghan helped draft a statement of claim for Mr Adams

…Asked how he could square his representation of Mr Adams with his stance on Sinn Féin, Mr O’Callaghan defended his actions. He referenced the code of conduct of the Irish Bar which prohibits discriminating in favour of or against any person availing of their services.

Good times.

OF recent polls, Mr Donohoe said:

“Fianna Fail are putting forward their worst hits of their recent past and what Sinn Fein are offering is the kind of ideas that will do such harm to workers income, to wages and to their jobs.

“They have claimed they are going to put forward new ideas for investment involving 15 different tax hikes – tax hikes that would be bad for those at work, tax hikes that would be bad for those looking to create jobs.”

Fianna Fáil Finance Spokesperson Michael McGrath (above left) and Health Spokesperson Stephen Donnelly begin the last week of the General Election campaign.

Of Sinn Fein’s poll rise, Mr McGrath said:

“In the real world, people change their behaviour, they make investment decisions depending on the change in taxation and enterprise landscape in the country.

“Sinn Fein want to make this a very cold place for business. They want to tax employment through increasing PRSI (Pay Related Social Insurance), they want to tax people over 100,000 euro under the pretence that won’t affect anybody below 100,000 euro.”

Fianna Fáil Justice spokesman Jim O’Callaghan, top with Lisa Chambers TD, said that should his party come to power he would be “disappointed” if…

…a gaming regulator were not in place before the end of the year ( funded by a levy on the industry)

“This is an industry that capitalises on an illness,” his colleague, Mayo TD Lisa Chambers, said.

Gambling advertising would be confined to the post-watershed hours, Mr O’Callaghan said, with the issue of online adverts to be “tackled”.
