A segment from Afterglow, which, according to producers Sweetgrass, has been hailed as:

…one of the most cinematically profound ski movies ever made. Deep pillows and Alaskan spines, all filmed at night, with massive lights, custom made LED suits, and a national government’s worth of logistics, planning, and civil engineering. Filmed as a partnership between Sweetgrass Productions, Philips TV, and the Swedish Agency Ahlstrand & Wållgren, it’s two parts creativity, one part branded content, and a pinch of masochism for good measure.

Fair enough.

Here’s the full film.

What started out as a 2012 April Fool’s skit from Thinkgeek is now an actual thing you can nearly buy.

The Technomancer Digital Wizard Hoodie (€88 but currently out of stock) is a garment fitted with a speaker box, 32 LED lights and a sensor board allowing you to bust nine spells before being pummelled to the ground by concerned onlookers.

‘Deep Screen’ – artist Muti Randolph’s interactive light installation at The Creators Project event in New York – 6,000 LED lights suspended in a matrix that react to the presence of observers as they enter.

We’d take the red pill. And the blue pill. And then another half a red pill.

Currently over three quarters of the way to Kickstarter funding, the LIFX lightbulb can be adjusted to any colour, available intensity and on/off schedule without extra wiring or switches.

You replace your existing light bulbs with LIFX, wifi-enabled LED bulbs (which the manufacturer claims last up to 25 years), download an iPhone/Android App and start tweaking the ambiance. You can even synch the lights to music tracks on your smartphone.

Pledge purchase price of between $50 and $70 per bulb.

Anonymous Madrid-based art group LuzInterruptus draws public attention to social and environmental issues in the city (decommissioned public swimming pools, nuclear power, shrinking green space, abandoned sites, etc) by creating ‘light interventions’ (not to be confused with ‘heavy interventions’) – temporary LED installations. They say:

We began to act on the streets of Madrid at the end of 2008 with had the simple idea of focusing people´s attention by using light on problems that we found in the city and that seem to go unnoticed to the authorities and citizens. But everything that we do does not have a subversive aim. Sometimes we simply want to embellish, or to highlight anonymous places or corners that seem special or objects to which we think extraordinary artistic value, although they have been left on the streets for unknown reasons, with artistic intention, by anonymous people.
