“Ms Halloran! Ms Halloran! I want 12 months,” Michael Whelan (above) had shouted at the judge before he had to be restrained by gardai and removed from the courtroom.”

Fair play though, in fairness.

The Clinton ‘rick off has ended.

Winner

His rhetoric sparkles and fizzes
So fast they forget where his jizz is.
He captures their hearts,
Then he spurts and departs,
While they’re still ascertaining what “is” is.

[To be read in the voice of Gerry Adams]

‘Tis a rule, no, some say a corollary
Espoused by folk wise, sage and scholarly:
Though his policy’s thin
Obama could win,
But not without Bolly and Holary.

For the health of all our beaux esprits,
Should K. Taylor come top of the tree,
Though the nation rejoice,
We’ll have no other choice
Than to execute Jimmy Magee.

O subs of the world, grab your guns
And dust off those Leprechaun puns.
There’s a Celt in the news:
Blah potatoes, blah booze
Blah car-bombs, blah schooled by the nuns.

Did you ever go boxing with Katie?
She’d knock the eye off a potaty
If the Olympics weren’t shite
I’d be watching the fight
Instead I’ll have tea and a pastry.

A Limerick photographer is continuing his mission to track down a young boy he photographed in the city some 40 years ago, as the image will be used on the front cover of his forthcoming book.

Gerry Andrews, whose exhibition ‘Shaped by History – Limerick in the 1970s’ – continues to run in the Hunt Museum, has identified virtually all the people he photographed decades ago in this iconic display. However, the identity of the young boy still eludes him.

“A lot of people have said to me there’s a look of sadness in his eyes, but I like to think that it’s a look of hope. Life was all ahead of him and I’d love to know what happened him. His eyes would just capture your heart.”

Judge Eugene O’Kelly (above) said he was “appalled” at video footage he had seen of the incident, which showed Garda Niall O’Connor “make a lunge” at Gary Daly and “drag him in a violent manner to the squad car” after the accused started recording the arrest of his friend on his phone.

…Recording a video was “not an offence”, said Judge O’Kelly, who added that he found it “extraordinary” that the case should follow so soon after the death of Rodney King, whose beating at the hands of the Los Angeles police in 1991 might never have come to light had it not been recorded by a third party.
