On Friday, a Ukrainian official said all 13 guards stationed at Snake Island had been killed by Russian forces.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised to decorate the guards.

“On our Zmiinyi Island, defending it to the last, all the border guards died heroically.

“But they did not give up. All of them will be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.”

Obolon, Ukraine

Via BBC:

Social media videos are showing what appears to be Russian tanks driving through Obolon, an area just north of Kyiv’s city centre.

Just in the past hour, Ukraine’s defence ministry confirmed that Russian forces had infiltrated the residential district.

The videos appear to have been taken by locals in their homes. The BBC has verified that the setting in these videos is Obolon.

Via Russian state-owned RT:

Moscow is willing to negotiate terms of surrender with Kiev regarding the ongoing Russian military offensive currently taking place in Ukraine, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

According to Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his preparedness to engage in discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart, with a focus on obtaining a guarantee of neutral status and the promise of no weapons on its territory.

…The press secretary added that Putin would determine the timing of the negotiations, but gave assurances that Russia would only engage “if the leadership of Ukraine is ready to talk about it.”

“The operation has its goals – they must be achieved. The president said that all decisions have been made, and the goals will be achieved,” Peskov continued, suggesting that, if Kiev were to agree to meet the demands, the current military attack on Ukraine could be called off.

Ukraine’s ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko, held back tears this morning telling RTE she “cannot believe this is happening in the 21st century”,

“My thoughts are with my people, with my family,” she said. She condemned the “cynical” attack of Russia on her country, which she said started just as the Russian federation was making its speech to an emergency UN security council.

“Putin is testing Ukraine and the security architecture of the whole world,” she said.

Gerakso told RTE:

The devastating and tough sanctions have to be imposed now immediately. Millions of lives are at stake now, life of Ukrainians, the democratic world has to isolate Russia by all means. And Ukraine needs financial support and humanitarian assistance, and of course military.

The foreign minister, Simon Coveney, told RTE that EU diplomats, including the two Irish representatives, had moved to a safe place in Kyiv and would be meeting in the next half hour.
