And things are going “dandy”.

The Brewery Corner, 29 Parliament Street, Kilkenny.

Stephen Foster writes:

Brewery Corner is a new Craft Beer pub in Kilkenny. The ‘Corner serves only Irish Craft Beer on tap.

We’re working very hard to promote and showcase Ireland’s indigenous brewing industry, which is undergoing something of a renaissance right now.

We opened in April and things are going dandy. This Friday is the first CornerCopia, a veritable glut of local musical and photographic talent. Clearly, you don’t normally do this, but we would love if you could give a little boost to Irish brewmen and brewladies given the week that’s in it

Independent Senators Fiach MacConghail [top] and Marie Louise O’Donnell [above] have two of the worst [attendance] records [in the Seanad] but they were only recently appointed by the Taoiseach with great fanfare – on his behalf.
Others were more sceptical. And no wonder. O’Donnell seemed to have been appointed for no other apparent reason than that she praised Enda Kenny’s leadership style in the media, notably on a crucial RTE Prime Time Special. And MacConghail was appointed for his arts experience but more specifically because he was chairman of We the Citizens civic group which was founded to bring new energy and accountability to Irish political life! Imagine.
The hope was that MacConghail would bring this focus into the Seanad, although many saw the appointment as a clever emasculation of this new group by sending its chairman into the discredited second chamber and thus impugning its ‘independence’. So what does it say about We the Citizens, that its chairman should then not bother showing up – for votes, and debate? How do they feel about it?

Why we need rid of this elitist, irrelevant (and overpaid) Seanad (Eamon Delaney)

The request [from Garda whistleblower John Wilson] revealed that from a total of 1,688,349 Garda summons issued, 646,509 were not served which totals 38 per cent.
A Garda press offer said:”…there are a multiplicity of reasons for non-service including: change of address, incorrect name recorded, incorrect details recorded, summons issued and alternative charges preferred, deceased persons, where persons cannot be located, persons residing outside the jurisdiction, re-issue of summons, summonses served by post returned un-served etc.”

After three fascinating years as Irish Times economics editor, I am moving on. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the great many people who have shared their time, thoughts and insights over that period and my many colleagues who have made the experience so interesting and rewarding.
I will be taking on the roles of chief economist at the Institute for International and European Affairs  and senior adjunct research fellow at University College Dublin’s School of Politics and International Relations.
From December I will also be writing regularly for Independent Newspapers, including a general column in the Sunday Independent, a weekly economics column each Friday in the Irish Independent and contributing to the newspaper as economics analyst.

Episode one in an upcoming series created by Matt Burniston, who sez:

Set in the shadows of a gritty underworld, a war is brewing. The Mega Plush, a group of four plush toy vigilantes, are struggling against the uprising of the SOC (Society of Chimps) army. Good vs evil. Bear vs sock monkey. The question is “who has the stuffing to survive?”

On the off-chance you are going out this evening.

Or if you just have an ailing, elderly relative with persistent bowel trouble.

Ross O’Mullane writes:

Long time reader, occasional contributor and new Gifts Direct employee here.We just launched our hangover hamper just in time for [Redacted]. Like the fools we are we made one too many.

We can give the hamper to whoever has the best traditional hangover solution? Drinking water, abstinence and moderation excluded.
We can deliver the hamper to the winner tomorrow (if in Dublin, or shortly after if outside Dublin?)…

Update:

Ross says:

The Hampover goes to Ahh Feck (“Alka Seltzer, fry with tea, Berocca, Dioralyte, s***e, shower and a shave In that order. You’ll be rights as rain”)
Although I don’t drink tea or shave, this is obviously the correct way  to deal with a hangover. Thanks all.

Hozier (from Wicklow) – Take me To Church.

Hozier sez:

The video references the recent increase of organised attacks and torturing of homosexuals in Russia, which is subsequent to a long,
hateful, and oppressive political campaign against the LGBT community. The song was always about humanity at it’s most natural and how that is undermined ceaselessly by religious organisations and those who would have us believe they act in it’s interests. What has been seen growing in Russia is no less than nightmarish.
