Yearly Archives: 2013

cover2-1This Woman’s Way cover from 1969 was posted earlier and included a quote Anne McStay (centre) gave the magazine about working mothers bringing up “juvenile delinquents” after receiving Housewife of the Year.

A friend of the McStay family has contacted us to explain some of the often harrowing circumstances Anne and her children were living in at the time and the years subsequent to this cover photo being taken. That Anne, who gave birth to four sets of twins, become a working mother herself after her marriage ended.

He said the McStay family were very upset by the item and asked us to remove the post, which we did earlier, and make a formal apology which we do so now.

Sorry.

Oisin Byrne and Gary Farrelly’s alternative-reality show ‘Dublin: A Radical Science Guide’.

The just-announced winner of the Uniquely Dublin creative challenge whatsit, declared in the Little Museum of Dublin, Stephen’s Green, Dublin, today.

Oisin and Gary plan to spend part of their prize-money – €10,000! – creating a swankier version of the guide

The six-month Dublin City Council initiative run by the Little Museum of Dublin invited people to “celebrate” the city in their own unique way.

Result, to be fair.

the-100-mph-bicycle-7597A new design from Donhou Bicycles in the UK that features a huge 104-tooth chainring, with a diameter of nearly 17 inches (43cm)  (most road bikes have about 50 teeth in their largest ring).

Theoretically, the hand-made, ultra-low handlebarred bike – which premiered at the UK Handmade Bicycle Show in Bristol earlier this month – can reach speeds of 100mph, though it’s only been clocked to 67mph so far.
