FUPP!

Sibling of Daedalus writes:

“It was the Christian Science Library on Baggot Street [built in 1928] which was pulled down over a bank holiday weekend in 1974. Concerned citizens who saw the beginning of the demolition were unable to contact anyone from Dublin Corporation, by the time the staff returned after the bank holiday weekend it was too late. Replaced by the Bord na Mona now O2 building (above) designed by Fianna Fail architect in residence Sam Stephenson. “

Temple or glass thing?

Denis O’Riordan writes:

“Molly is a 14 year old mix breed Lab that has been missing since last night. We are very worried about her at this stage, poor thing is very feeble. Please keep an eye out for her. We live in Ballsbridge [Dublin] area. She was last seen in Baggot street. Thankyou.”

Sir, – I fully agree with Alan Fairbrother (September 6th) on the question of our dropping the Irish “mam” or “ma” in favour of first the Anglo “mum” and now the American “mom”.
I suppose it has to do with our obsession with sounding posh, and fear of, God forbid, sounding Irish ! – Yours, etc,

Raymond Kennedy
