Dublin comic writer Bob Byrne’s ‘Big Bad Spanish’.
Promising to teach Spanish through “humiliating trial and error, brute force and immersion”.
Bob explains:
“You play as Benji, a guy with absolutely no Spanish skills. As you fight your way through the entire Spanish speaking world you will all manner of rude and unhelpful characters. You learn by jumping in, getting knocked down, dusting yourself and trying again. It´s a frustrating but enjoyable way to cement words and phrases into your brain forever…The game will be available first on iOS and then Android and PC but you can play the Demo online HERE.”
Reviews welcome anyone?
Knackered
at[‘Controversial’ blogger and food critic Niall Harbison (top) and Grand Canal Dock, Dublin (above) yesterday]
Yesterday:
“When the sun shines there are certain places that you just know will be packed. The Barge is probably the most obvious place to head but for years it was Ocean Bar. 100s of people would sit outside happily supping pints and watching knackers play their favourite sport of bridge jumping wearing wet suits. It really is amazing how long the little bastards can keep themselves entertained jumping into water and how the local crime rates plunge when they are all busy having their annual wash.”
This morning:
“Now you get pretty extreme reactions online but it was the sheer volume of rational people telling me I was wrong that makes see the error in my ways. I should have been smart enough not to write those 2 lines myself but the fact is I did and it took others to highlight my error. I was wrong and I apologise.”

Sir, – Further to Una Mullally’s article (“Getting hot under the collar about ice cream vans”, Opinion & Analysis, June 16th) regarding my recent comments in the Seanad, I feel the need to set the record straight.
I brought up the issue of ice cream vans in the Seanad because when a parent from Wexford raised the topic with me, it struck a chord. The omnipresent chime of the ice cream van at this time of year is just one very small example of the pressures facing parents who are trying to keep their children away from sugar-laden treats. Obesity is not a trivial matter and it is certainly not something I would ever attempt to make light of.
I know all too well that it can’t be solved by regulating ice cream vans; that we need more education; that parents must say no; that children need to be more active; and most of all that a so-called nanny state is not in any way progressive.
Despite taking some flak over the last week, I will continue to talk about obesity and to suggest ideas – be they big or small – on how we can go about reducing it.
Yours, etc,
Seantor Catherine Noone
