Prince Devitt.

He’s the Co-Wicklow born monarch of menace. And he’s going to marry Katie.

Fearsome New Japan Pro Wrestling junior heavyweight champion Prince (Fergal) Devitt takes on the the much-fancied Okada on Friday.

This is the big one and might prompt the IOC to inlcude the sport for Rio 2016.

Please be careful, Prince. Not the face!

Contains; trash talk

Thanks Rovert

world cup

There can only be one winner.

It is almost upon us.

The 60th World Trout Fly Championship on Lough Mask, County Mayo.

Finally.

First fished back in 1953, the then Castlebar Trout Anglers Association and An Tostal [early Gathering] competition was considered one of the first international sporting events in Ireland.

And it has survived (casts net for cliche) in spite of economic hardship.

Denis Kelleher says:

From a peak of 820 competitors we are down to numbers in the region of 450. The disposable income isn’t in people’s pockets anymore but this event which has survived a closure due to foot and mouth and the ‘rod war of ‘89’.
It is estimated the four day event is worth in the region of €1million to Ballinrobe and its surrounds. Pubs, hotels and restaurants will all contribute in some way to the event”.

Rod war?

*snigger*.

Anyone?

jimmyDublin sliothar-stopping legend Jimmy Grey.

He was in the wrong sport in the wrong town.

John Gallen writes

Dublin hurler, Jimmy Grey, was goalkeeper the last time they won the Leinster Hurling Final’s Bob O’Keefe Cup in 1961. He had these words to say cheerfully on [RTE’s] Six One News this evening.

“The attitude in Dublin would have been largely, be football, whether soccer, rugby or gaelic football and hurling was seen as kind of a, a culchie game. To some extent, way back. And as a consequence only one Dublin born player*, as you probably know, ever won an all Ireland medal.”

Lovely man. Being a culchie myself and from Galway, living in Dublin, I look forward to extending those 52 years a little further on Sunday.

* I have no idea who that player I should probably know was :/

Anyone?
