David writes:

We’ve started a new facebook page called The People of Croke Park and we plan to photograph the fans on their way into the stadium for every match this summer – from now until the All Ireland.

It’s a riot of colour and excitement and the good weather yesterday really added to the atmosphere.

Fans from Carlow, Laois, Longford and Dublin were all out in their full colours.

Katie Taylor with her father Peter Taylor return home from Bejing in 2012

“First and foremost, I would like to wish my most heartfelt condolences to the family of Bobby Messett for their tragic loss. I can’t imagine the despair or the sense of injustice they must be dealing with. I’m praying they know God’s comfort in the hard days ahead.

For my Dad, I’m very thankful and relieved he made it through this horrific attack and is recovering well. I understand there is still a lot of uncertainty about the nature of the incident but I’m hoping the gardaí will get to the bottom of it very soon.

As many of you know, I have been somewhat estranged from my Dad for a number of years now. I’ve had little contact with him in the last three years and no contact or association whatsoever with Bray Boxing Club since 2015.

I have been appalled by the misuse of my name and image during the reporting of this incident in the media coverage, it has been reckless and irresponsible, and a deliberate attempt to inappropriately leverage my name to sell a story. I urge the media to leave me, my Mum and other family members out of this story.

Finally, to Bobby’s family: You didn’t deserve this heartache, I’m so sorry for your loss.”

items from the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon gift bag; Kinvara will make a swap

Roisin Keown of Kinvara Skincare, writes:

Lots of twitter chat and disappointment about the cleaning product samples in the VHI Mini-marathon race bags this year.

We’re offering to swap anyone’s unwelcome washing tablets for something we think they’ll love – a discount off our Absolute Cleansing Oil.

We’ve just gone live on twitter with our offer, so we’re letting Broadsheeters know. Because we think the only cleaning products to get excited about are the ones that make you feel awesome and capable of anything – natch. Thanks Broadsheet!

In fairness.

Lara Serviolle (above right), a member of the Irish Medieval Armoured Combat team, has won the IMCF Female Longsword World Championship!!

Lara is an amazing woman, living in Sligo and has stormed the medival Combat world winning the competition for the second time after her win in 2017.

She is an inspiration and deserves as much recognition as she can get!

10 fighters and supporters travelled over from Ireland for the event and over 500 fighters from all over the world fought in the 4 day event

Medival Armoured Combat is a full contact sport, fighters compete in full armour with swords, shields, axes, maces etc. We are trying to build the profile to the sport in Ireland and Lara is an amazing advocate!!

The nets at St Paul’s GAA Club in Lurgan, Craigavon, Northern Ireland

UUP MLA Doug Beattie had hit out at St Paul’s Gaelic Football Club for changing their netting to “depict the Irish Tricolour” and in doing so “marking out territory”.

The club has now defended their new nets, re-iterating that they – along with the club’s new stand – are in keeping with the club’s colours.

Awkward own-goal, re: allowing parity of esteem in the north east of Ireland. This, from the “moderate” and “middle-ground” UUP…

Fight!
