Behold: the Dublin Cycling Buddy app.

Launched by Dublin City Council’s ‘Smart City Programme’.

Via Dublin City Council:

The new cycling community app developed to help Dublin City Council use cyclists’ shared data to identify cycling routes in the city for development and upgrade.

Building on ‘ride data’ and comments logged by users, it will continually present data to city officials to help direct investment and route improvements across the city, as well as continually improve the algorithm’s ability to suggest safer and quieter cycling routes in Dublin.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) boss Willie Walsh said the Mandatory Hotel Quarantine detention system was “particularly dangerous” for a country like Ireland.

He asked why Ireland was the only country in Europe to impose mandatory quarantine even on vaccinated travellers.

The former Aer Lingus and BA chief said:

“The message is we don’t want people travelling to the country.

“Freedom of movement is a fundamental principal of the EU. That is what has upset me most.

Nobody travelling into the UK from Belgium tested positive yet you are locking them up…

“If these people are vaccinated then these restrictions should be removed. Why do you want to lock up people who have been fully vaccinated?”

Fergus ‘Ratlicker’ O’Neill writes:

An excellent comment was made by the marvelous ‘Cian’ on the Aisling O’Loughlin post (at link below) for the Broadsheet bloodhound to be recrowned with a tinfoil hat. I’ve fixed that for you (above).

You get the most amount of flak when you’re directly over the enemy. Isn’t that what they say? Wha? Keep wearing all the hats…

This morning/afternoon.

Ireland saw a 50% jump in callouts regarding gulls and other pest birds so far this year.

Dublin accounts for over 60% of total callouts for seagulls and other pest birds followed by Wicklow (16%) and Kilkenny (16%) so far this year.

Pest control experts Rentokil is urging people to be wary of them when eating outdoors, in particular, once outdoor dining returns in June, as this is when they are most likely to harass or try to steal food from members of the public and raid waste bins.

Pfizer has announced that it will begin using its west Dublin facility ‘as part of its supply chain’ for its Covid-19 vaccine. Up to $40m will be invested at Grange Castle (top) with 75 new jabs jobs.

In a statement, the pharma giant said:

“…Pfizer is now bringing on additional European-based facility to be a part of the global Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine supply chain network and Grange Castle (Ireland) will contribute to the worldwide supply of the vaccine.

“Pfizer’s Grange Castle facility will produce mRNA drug substance. Given the extensive technical transfer process, on-site development, equipment installation and regulatory approvals needed for the sites, we expect both facilities will be brought by the end of 2021.”
