The plentiful bilberry

Foraging for hungry cyclists.

The first in a series.

Ciaran Hussey, of the Crank & Cog blog, writes:

The beauty of the bike is that there is no barrier between you and your surroundings.

The slow pace of travel,  panoramic views, and lack of metal and glass encasing you in an air-conditioned bubble allows you the opportunity to spot things you otherwise would miss if travelling by car or the like.

Things. Free things. Food. Free food!!  Bilberries!

Bilberries are small, black, delicious berries, similar in appearance to blueberries, that grow as a low lying scrub scattered across bog land, forests and hedges.

The berry ripens in Ireland around the end of July and beginning of August.

Found in clearings in forests, where the sun can reach them, along roadside hedges and carpeting some highland and mountainous areas that haven’t been extensively farmed.

It can be simply gathered and thrown in with your porridge in the morning, eaten as a snack as you travel or used as a bloody dye in a hoax horrific bike accident….

Free Food…for a limited time! Foraging along the way _(Crank & Cog).

Apologies for the delay.

The results are in.

There could be only one winner.

‘Mike’ wins a voucher worth TWENTY FIVE big ones to spend in any of the 13 Golden Discs stores nationwide for selecting ‘Bullshit’ by Grace Jones.

The prefect song to sum up the Ticketmaster brouhaha, Mike felt.

Runners up:

Liam: “Play ‘Feel Up‘ because it’s just a great groove and also has barking dogs on it which is always a bonus.”

Hank: “Please play with yourself while listening to “Slave To The Rhythm” by Grace Jones at 2pm today because if we all do it at the same time, maybe there’ll be less of a sense of shame.”

Sue: “Please play ‘On Your Knees’ by Grace Jones at 2pm today because that’s the vertiginous position I’ll be in at the Upper Circle on the 21st.”

Michaél: ‘Please play Pull up to the Bumper by Grace Jones at 2pm today because it’s just pure filth, and you need that on a Friday.

James Chimney: “Please play “When I’m cleaning Windows” by Grace Jones at 2pm today because I’ve been at the glue again.”

Thanks all

It’s about a highly trained team of stoner burnouts who run a news/humour website out of a basement/laundry room of a normal family home…

…No wait, come back!

Stephen Murphy writes:

Film Network Ireland is taking its online networking community into the real world with its first official meetup event. The event is open to any filmmaker looking to make some connections in Ireland and night will come in two parts:

First, is the speed networking event. From 7pm to 8pm, participants will have five minutes to talk to another filmmaker, introduce themselves, exchange information and talk about ideas.

After five minutes, a bell rings and each participant moves on to another person. This happens every five minutes for an hour.

The second part of the evening is the more informal part. Did you meet someone during the speed networking section who you wanted to chat with for longer? This is your chance to do so, as we open the evening to a more organic form of networking.

Yeah yeah, give us the short version.

Tickets are €10 and available here.
