Inventor, technologist, former head of research and development for Disney’s Imagineering department Bran Ferren became a father for the first time in his fifties.

Since the birth of his daughter, he’s been constructing an ‘adventure vehicle’ in which he and four year-old Kira intend to travel the world.

It’s called the KiraVan and Ferren – who’s already designed a series of location trucks for ABC – has spent ‘millions’ developing the 10m long, 3m high, six-Kevlar-wheeled mobile fortress with its dozen interlinked communication systems, bathroom, full kitchen, penthouse and impressive all-terrain chops, including the ability to negotiate 45 degree slopes and travel 2000 miles on a single tank of diesel.

Due for completion later this year, it is thought to be the most elaborate all terrain vehicle ever built.

The Bradley Timepiece designed by Hyungsoo Kim is a simple, effective tactile watch featuring two metal balls rotating in circular grooves on the face (indicating minutes) and at the side (hours).

Initially pitched on Kickstarter, the pledge goal of $40,000 has been superceded by huge demand and now stands at nearly $600,000.

Unsurprisingly, the watch will go on sale this summer in the US with a European launch expected shortly thereafter.

theremin
The theremin or aetherphone, patented by Russian inventor Léon Theremin in 1928 and currently manufactured by Moog Instruments, is an amplified proto-synthesiser that uses two metal antennae to generate frequencies based on the relative position of the user’s hands.

But you knew that.

Here’s a Chrome/Safari/Firefox-friendly interactive online player with which to amaze/annoy your family and/or colleagues right this minute.

bubbleyourtv

Bubble Your TV is a new second screen app from developer Padraig Hough.

The app not only acts as a TV guide but also lets you comment and rate the shows you are watching.

You can sort shows by ratings, popularity and time left (well there’s no point in switching to something that’s nearly over is there?).

It’s early days for the app and they are actively looking for feedback so why not give it a LOOKl and let them know what YOU think?

The app is available now on the Google Play Store and an iOS version is in the pipeline.

Do you have an Irish app? Broadsheet@broadsheet.ie

As always, no favours, cuddles, or pints were given for this post. We have some guidelines on submissions.

MarbleClock_1_CEss

An ingenious if long-winded mechanical timepiece created in 2013 by Turnvator Janosch.

Every minute, a ball is released onto an inclined track where traps indicate the time in minute, five-minute and hourly intervals.

Driven by a 2.5kg weight, the clock runs for twelve hours at a time and according to its inventor, has an accuracy error of just one second in 24 hours.
