Snooty, a manatee raised in captivity since 1948, currently resident at South Florida Museum’s Parker Manatee Aquarium, turned 66 this week. In the wild, manatees rarely live past 30 and many don’t make it to 10, regularly dying from injuries inflicted by boat propellors.
Snooty eats 70-80lbs of lettuce, carrots, kale, cabbage, bok choy, broccoli and other assorted vegetables every day, which his keepers suggest has contributed to his remarkable flatulence longevity.

Dollymount Strand, Co Dublin: No cars, dogging no kite-surfing
“There is increasing use of the beach due in part to recreational activities such as kite surfing, a sport which has increased in popularity because of the conditions in Dublin Bay which make it an excellent venue for this particular sport,
Recently there was an incident on the beach where a car which was stuck in the sand led to a woman being injured.
Due to the haphazard nature of parking, emergency vehicles had difficulty attending to the incident and the gardai subsequently advised that the cars should no longer be permitted onto the beach.
“This was the culmination of a number of incidents where the 24-hour access to the beach from the causeway has resulted in serious anti-social activity and concern for public safety.”A Dublin City Council spokeswoman

Friday July 25: Mother And Nialler9 present The Last Days of Disco @ Moxie Studios (10pm, €15, BYOB)
Nialler9 writes:
“I try not to pick every event I’m involved with but this gig should be greater than the sum of its parts. The Last Days Of Disco celebrates disco music’s recent renaissance in Ireland with sets from electronic synth-disco band Ships, funk-indebted electronic band Dioscó na mbó, DJ sets from the disco night Burnin’ Up’s Kelly-Anne Byrne, Mother and me. The venue will be dressed by Hunt & Gather with a suitable disco-theme. It’s €15, BYOB and is part of the Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular series of gigs.
“If you don’t like that well, there’s always Knockanstockan, Whelan’s Bluegrass, Country & Roots Festival, the City Spectacular Soul Picnic, Summer Rising at IMMA or loads more listed in the guide [link below]…”
