Also: We had wondered where all the vintage post boxes were going.

Meanwhile…

I think the bulk of what I was saying about nurturing and developing a real relationship with a very complex group of emigrants is absolutely essential. As one guy said to me: ‘stop calling us tourists. We’re exiles, we’re emigrants’.

Brendan Kelly writes:

You may or may not be aware of this communication from one Senator Ronan Mullen (top).
So who are Anne-Maree Quinn and Catherine MacEnri?
Anne-Maree Quinn is a contributor to blogs of both the Iona Institute and the Pro-Life Campaign.
And Catherine MacEnri?
Well according to solocheck.ie, Catherine is a director of a company called Fiuntas Centres Ltd., which among presumably other activities, run a youth centre based at Lismullen in Co. Meath. which incidentally, is an Opus Dei operation.
You’ll be happy to hear they also train nurses…

Aoife Ruth (of The Annulments) sez:

With the week that’s in it, what with the Budget and the general squeeze, we thought ye might like this song. It’s called ‘Bank Failures’ and a guy called Bob Miller wrote it about the Wall Street Crash of ’29.

This is a video of us singing it at the Black Letters and Ballads night last month. Every month, performers have to find songs on a certain theme and at the last one, the theme was ‘Hard Times’ so this seemed pretty suitable! If it was written yesterday about the current mess we’re in I don’t think it could be more apt.

Quite.
