The London Met Police – in collaborations with TfL British Transport Police and the City of London Police – has uploaded a gallery of 2000 stolen bikes recovered as a result of their new Project Cycle Ops initiative.

Experiments in speed. Inspired by those great men of the salt flats, those men that in the 60s pushed the Land Speed Record from the 300s up towards the 600mph mark in jet-propelled cars built in their sheds. We decided to do what we do: build a bicycle, but this time, in the spirit of those pioneers of speed, build it to see how fast we could go…

I know you don’t normally do this but my bike was stolen from my apartment complex on Royal Canal Bank in Phibsborough [Dublin] at the weekend.
It’s a second hand bike made from parts from different bikes (not by me) and it’s worth only the change in your pocket but I love the thing.
It’s identifiable by dodgy gears, a saddle that’s torn to shreds and some orange tape around parts of the handlebars. I know the chances are slim but if anybody comes across it I’d appreciate a heads up.
