indo apology

Today’s Irish Independent

Gerry Adams had simply recounted an incident in which the IRA raided the offices of the newspaper on 19 December 1919 during the Tan War. He also said during the speech that he ‘obviously wasn’t advocating anything like that’.

The Gerry Adams waxwork is unveiled by Gerry Adams

Darach Lennon at the mueum writes:

Mr. Adams played a prominent role in the negotiation of the Good Friday agreement and his absence from the museum’s Good Friday Agreement exhibit has been noted by many visitors to the National Wax Museum
The addition of Mr. Adams’ figure completes an exhibit featuring all the major political figures involved. Visitors can relive the moment of the signing of the agreement, by posing with a copy of the signed agreement. . The Irish Times ran a feature about the process of creating the figure, done by resident sculptor PJ Heraty.

Sinn Féin leader, Gerry Adams

The Guardian reports:

“Gerry Adams, the Sinn Féin leader, will not face any charges in connection with one of the most controversial murders of Northern Ireland’s Troubles – the abduction, murder and secret burial of Jean McConville.”

“The Public Prosecution Service in the region confirmed on Tuesday it had taken a decision not to prosecute seven individuals in relation to the McConville killing, which was the most notorious of the “disappeared”.”

“…The deputy director of public prosecutions, Pamela Atchison, said: “We have given careful consideration to the evidence currently available in respect of each of the three men and four women reported and have concluded that it is insufficient to provide a reasonable prospect of obtaining a conviction against any of them for a criminal offence.””

Prince Charles and Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams during Prince Charles’ visit to Galway last week

At the end of her otherwise lyrical piece on Prince Charles’s visit to Galway and the Burren, Miriam Lord concludes on a gratuitously negative and wrong note (“Fields of magic on trip to the Burren”, May 20th).

“As for Mr Adams, he didn’t stay for the speeches after the handshakes. Gerry had his Kodak moment.” Oh Lord.

I did stay. Upstairs. With Martin McGuinness and Trevor Ó Clochartaigh. But maybe Miriam didn’t know. We met privately with Charles and there wasn’t a negative word between us. Just saying. – Is mise,

GERRY ADAMS, TD
