Almost a dozen sailors have been injured after a U.S. nuclear attack submarine hit an unknown underwater object in the South China Sea, USNI News has learned.
The Seawolf-class nuclear attack submarine USS Connecticut (SSN-22) suffered an underwater collision while operating in international waters on Oct. 2 and is returning to port in U.S. 7th Fleet, a U.S. Pacific Fleet spokesman confirmed to USNI News on Thursday.
Until we did the research. It turned out we were a bit oblivious off the real impact of nuclear weapons in the real world, on a real city. And especially, how helpless even the most developed nations on earth would be if an attack occurred today.

Ireland has nothing to fear from proposals for eight new nuclear power plants in Britain, this country’s nuclear safety watchdog says.
A three-year study by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) found the day-to-day running of the plants would pose no health risk here.
And it said even in a worst-case scenario, where the most serious kind of accident was combined with the least favourable weather conditions, the maximum radiation dose likely to be received by members of the public was still well within safety limits.
On July 19, 1957, five men stood at Ground Zero of an atomic test that was being conducted at the Nevada Test Site. This was the test of a 2KT (kiloton) MB-1 nuclear air-to-air rocket launched from an F-89 Scorpion interceptor. The nuclear missile detonated 10,000 ft above their heads.
Back in 2003, Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto animated all 2,053 nuclear explosions between 1945 and 1998. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s chilling stuff. You can see why the anti-nuclear movement has its roots in the 1960s. Hashimoto sez:
This piece of work is a bird’s eye view of the history by scaling down a month length of time into one second. No letter is used for equal messaging to all viewers without language barrier. The blinking light, sound and the numbers on the world map show when, where and how many experiments each country have conducted. I created this work for the means of an interface to the people who are yet to know of the extremely grave, but present problem of the world.
