Bisectmulticultural hardcore outfit releasing new split 12″

What you may need to know…

01. With band members of Polish, Italian and Irish backgrounds, Bisect’s no-nonsense, d-beat rage is fuelled by a diverse range of outlooks and musical influences.

02. Gigging around Ireland the past few years, the band emerged in earnest with debut full-length We Are The Migrants, self-released in 2013, a sturdy, socially-conscious hardcore broadside with unusually polished production.

03. Streaming above is their half of a split extended-player with fellow Cork-based destroyers Horse, co-released in December through the band’s self-release label, Almost Records.

04. The other half, including Horse’s YMLT-featured single Dragging, can be streamed on that band’s own Bandcamp.

Thoughts: Since being slimmed down in a personnel shift, Bisect have moved to focus their sound, and it shows.

Cruiserfuzziness and pop from Limrock

What you may need to know…

01. Limerick four-piece Cruiser make minor-key pop that falls somewhere inbetween shoegaze’s fuzziness, and pop-punk’s enthusiasm.

02. Coming together in 2014, the band settled on a solid line-up in 2015, and have since been a solid presence on Limerick gig bills, sharing stages with The Altered Hours, Windings and Rats on Rafts among others.

03. Streaming above is the HOT 4U E.P., released in May of this year. Available for free/name-your-price download along with the rest of their tunes on Bandcamp, including a non-loathsome take on Fairytale of New York. In fairness, etc.

04. Catch them next at Dolan’s in Limerick on Stephens’ Night, as part of I’ll Be Home for Christmas, a big, feck-off wedge of Limrock for holiday returnees, also including Windings, FONDA and Slow Riot.

Verdict: Immediately likeable, earnest music, slathered in fuzz and feedback, with a notable (and much-needed) lack of notions.

We Come in PiecesLimrock math trio in final gig of the year tonight

What you may need to know…

01. Math-punk three-piece We Come in Pieces have traipsed around the continent a few times over the course of their six years of existence.

02. Garnering attention for 2010’s full length Before the Chains and steadily touring for 2012’s Land of the Living, the band has been back in studio, finishing their third full-length.

03. Streaming above is the video for 2012’s single release, Sexy Rouge.

04. Catch them tonight in Limerick, in their last gig of the year, with local lads Cruiser and Cassavetes in support. Dolan’s, 9pm.

Verdict: A staple component of Limerick music at this point, this upcoming record of theirs ought to be a treat.

GRITnew demo out via Distr-Oi! Records

What you may need to know…

01. Hailing from Dublin, GRIT deliver seething female-fronted Oi! punk.

02. Consisting of members of RATS BLOOD and Burnchurch, the band debuted this past July at a gig in Grangegorman, followed by the digital self-release of their eponymously-titled demo.

03. The demo is streaming above in its entirety, available for streaming and download.

04. Sligo-based label and distro Distr-Oi! (an imprint of metal label Distro-y) have just announced the band will be releasing the demo on vinyl later on this year.

VERDICT: Challenging the predominantly male narrative of Oi!/punk in general, GRIT’s visceral disgust at the state of Irish society is not so much a breath of fresh air as a much-needed fist to the face.
