Drama aims to make sense of boom and bust (Carol Hunt, Sunday Independent)

Canadian student, Lance Cardinal was an avid collector of Pallisades Toy Company Muppet Show character figures and playsets. When the company went bust in 2006, much of its proposed range was cancelled, including the Muppet Theatre Backstage set.

So Lance built his own from scratch, complete with lights, working drapes, trapdoors, rigging and backdrops. The level of detail is just mind-blowing.

Our highlight of the upcoming Dublin Theatre Festival (sponsored by a bank) is the beautifully-shod, performance artist Amanda Coogan. And her play, Yellow. Which is, no. Let the programme speak for itself:
Yellow
A woman dressed in a large yellow dress, continuously washes her enormous skirt in a bucket of soap water over 4 hours, to the intermittent strains of a piano composition by Franz Schubert. Originally authored by the performance artist Amanda Coogan, Yellow, which examines the frail and yet indomitable nature of human spirit, will be interpreted individually by six women over consecutive days.

As Michael Macliammoir might have put it: “That don’t make me so horny.”

Amanda Coogan’s Home Page.

Throw him a frickin’ bone for chrissakes. Who dresses a dog like that? Still. He does look happy. And why not? Last night he got to meet Director of the Ulster Bank (cough) Dublin Theatre Festival Loughlin Deegan. In what BS has decided might be a stroke of genius (one, sadly, too late for Monty) Loughlin and his friends are putting on a competition for actors to vie for the role of Hamlet. The, eh, great Dane. The festival’s not on until September so this was the launch of the programme. In about an hour we shall have another of our wonderful slide shows where you can see who else would literally turn up to the launch of a theatre programme.  The dog’s name is Toby. Good morning.

Impress your friends. Read the programme online here
