Just wondering if any chance you could do a shout out  for my comedy group Ghost Train Willy’s show this week? It’s called Rhubarb Crumble – it’s on in The Civic Theatre [Tallaght, D24] tonight and runs until this Saturday 29th November at 8:15pm. Tickets here.

It’s the comedy tale of a second-rate children’s theatre company, whose members all fantasise about the lives they could have led had they not been held back by each other.

Your analogies are invited.

Tá scamaill sa spéir

Beidh dráma aon-ghnímh leis an bhfile agus drámadóir clúiteach Biddy Jenkinson don teideal Mise, Subhó agus Maccó á léiriú sa New Theatre, Barra an Teampaill, Baile Átha Cliath, ar an 25ú/26ú/27ú de Mheán Fómhair.

Dúirt Áine Moynihan:

“Tá dian-obair curtha isteach ag foireann an dráma seo chun caighdeán ard léirithe a bhaint amach agus cé nach bhfuilimid mar chuid oifigiúil den bhFéile Drámaíochta is mian linn ár gcuid a dhéanamh chun cur le drámaíocht na Gaeilge sa chathair le linn na Féile. Tá ábhar an dráma seo tráthúil mar gheall ar an ngéarchéim a bhaineann le heaspa dídine na laethanta seo, go háirithe i mBaile Átha Cliath agus ba mhaith linn cabhrú chun áird a tharraingt ar an bhfulaingt a bhaineann leis.”

moyross

[Grace Dyas, Louise Donlon, Mike Fitzpatrick, Sheila Deegan, Lauren Larkin and Louise Lewis in Dalgaish Park, Moyross, Limerick this week]

Dublin’s THEATREclub has been working with people living in Moyross, Limerick to create a theatre piece called Moyross.

Rapper Nathan Keane, 19 – whose song [written with Calvin McNamara], was the subject of recent controversy when former CEO of Limerick City of Culture Patricia Ryan requested that the lyrics be changed – is taking part in the production.

Grace Dyas of THEATREclub told Limerick Leader:

“The idea is that there is as much talent in Moyross as there is under the Hollywood sign. When I first got here I thought there was such a difference between the public perception about what this place is and what it really is. I thought, wouldn’t it be great to try and do something truthful, the reality of people’s experience here – and the only way to do that is to give them the voice themselves, give the stage over to them.”

Moyross will take place at the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick from April 30 to May 3, as part of the Limerick City of Culture festival.

leper

The frenetic trailer for a new play, Leper and Chip, written by Lee Coffey, directed by Karl Shiels. To wit:

The boy, Leper meets the girl, Chip. Boy meets girl… in the middle of a battering, boy wrecks bus full of pensioners, girl gets chased by machete wielding maniac and love without madness isn’t love at all…Fast, frantic, funny… Dublin at 100mph with leopard coated cougars, Pringle eating whales and your almost-midget mate chained inside a fridge.

Rob O’Donoghue writes:

‘Leper and Chip’ will be running in Theatre Upstairs, above Lanigan’s Pub on Eden Quay, Dublin from the 22nd of April until the 3rd of May.

Production company Bitter Like A Lemon is also raising funds via indiegogo, should you feel inclined to support the arts.

LARAELaraeDó [The Outlaw].

An Irish-language musical cowboy comedy set in the Irish west.

At An Taibhdearc, Middle Street, Galway on 14th December 2013.

Sinéad Ní Uilleacháin writes:

Based in Texas in the 1800s, LaraeDó presents to us a young man from the East who has decided to head to the Wild West in search of adventure. That’s exactly what he gets!He finds himself in Fitzies saloon in the town of LaraeDó where he meets LaraeDó’s greedy rancher, preacher, wild Indians and saloon girls. Some of them are looking for a fight. Some are looking for romance. All are looking for drinkin’, singin’, and general mayhem …

They’d have found that down at the bottom of Quay street any night, in fairness..

FUsed

Then you may like this.

YOU share the joystick.

“Have you ever wished your theatre show had the excitement of a video game? Live performance collides with gaming as this adventure comes to life before your eyes. The audience shares the joystick and must work together to guide our hero through a variety of mind-bending puzzles.

…FUSED is a live theatre interpretation of a point-and-click videogame, where audience members take it in turns to direct a character through levels, solving intricate puzzles and (hopefully) completing an exciting mission.”

Fused, which will run as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival, from September 10 to 14, at the Lir Academy in Trinity College, Dublin.
