Thought you’d never ask.

Bolt cutters begone.

Keep your bike from being half-inched.

I’m not sure you normally do this but…we love your ‘we don’t normally do this’ section however it fills our eyes with tears seeing people getting their brand new bikes robbed all the time in Dublin.
In an effort to really show how important locking your bike is with a ‘proper’ lock and how it can save your bike from creepy crawlies, we made a short video on bike security (above). To celebrate, we have FIVE top notch Gold Star rating MasterLocks (these are really good locks) to give away to BS readers. (Five of the worst stories of bike thievery in the comments section chosen by BS wins a lock)….

Lines MUST close at midnight tonight.

You may recall’s Eoin’s Macbook Pro.

The one he left on the roof of his car.

Well…

In an unbelievable turn of events, somebody found my laptop in Ranelagh (having travelled from Pembroke Gardens on the rooftop), dropped it in to the nearest shop, of which the owner then dropped it in to Donnybrook Garda station on his way home from work. Somehow, it’s still in perfect working order with a small dent on one corner. Counting my lucky stars and the generosity and kindness of my fellow Dubliners, and of course the stellar work from the Gardaí in Donnybrook! I will be making a donation to charity as I am one lucky huare. Thanks Broadsheet for spreading the word.

I know you don’t normally do this but I stupidly left my 15″ MacBook Pro (as above) on top of my car and drove off from Pembroke Gardens, up Baggot Lane, left on to Eastmoreland Place, right on to Baggot Street and left up Waterloo Road heading for Rathmines.
It’s in a foam case, there was a folder and pad with it which have my business cards. Happened just over an hour ago, have contacted Irishtown Gardaí as well as businesses along Baggot St but no joy. Laptop is locked but “find my iPhone” app which is compatible with MacBooks only works when online. Thank you.

Anyone?

UPDATE: Eoin writes: A4 pad was just found on the corner of Leeson Street and Appian Way, no laptop though…

More as it reaches us.

fixx

Fixx, Molesworth Street, Dublin

This morning.

DRAMA.

Cath writes:

I know you don’t normally do this but…this one is for the cyclists! This morning I took my new bike on its maiden voyage and stopping for a quick coffee with a friend at Fixx on Molesworth St, I sat outside determined to watch over my new trusty steed.

Lo and behold within half an hour I watched as a man in his mid-30s wearing a dark grey hoodie attempted to make off with my bike!

As I chased him a knight in shining armour (well, a light blue polo shirt) grabbed the bike as I grappled with the offender.

In the tussle I held on to his bag and eventually he escaped but I was left with his bag containing a bolt cutters and a snipped lock belonging to another unfortunate (former) bike owner [all handed into Gardai].

With all the commotion, I never got to speak to the man in the blue polo shirt so hopefully he will see this post and feel deservedly proud of his actions. Thanks also to the friendly people who stopped to make sure I was OK after the altercation….

Blimey.

The cyclist we can identify.

His pilion rider remains a mystery.

I was at the street performers festival in Merrion Sq [Dublin] yesterday, During, Mario Queen of The Circus act, he enlisted the help of a member of the public, someone called Amy (above). The act was fantastic, really entertaining and funny, helped by the involvement of Amy. I have some photographs of the performance if Amy would like copies of them [see here]

Hope you can help! A 2-year-old girl has lost her best friend on holidays and cannot sleep without him! He is a Valentine’s Day red devil teddy bear with black horns and black cape. He was bought in Dunnes [Stores] about 7/8 years ago.

If there is anything that you can do to help us find his ‘twin’, it would be greatly appreciated If anyone has one of these devils lying around their house that we can have/buy, it would make a little girl (and her parents!) very happy!

Anyone?

This friendly neutered male cat was brought to the vets after a near miss with a truck. He was lucky and sustained no injuries ! He was found outside Haywood estate on the Naas road, Blessington, Co. Wicklow. After two weeks at the vets his owners still haven’t come forward which is surprising as he is very playful and lovable – he rolls over to have his belly scratched….if he’s yours call 045-857875

Stop that.
