“Big swell coming for Ireland’s western and NW sea board over the coming weekend and into next week. Here is a shot of Mullaghmore from last year [above] to wet your appetite. The Forecast for swell looks mental. A few normal days of good swell in store before all hell breaks loose …Tomorrow (Thursday) will be nice clean offshore 4 ft…. Friday 3-4 ft and offshore…. Saturday 4-5 ft and offshore…. Sunday will be in the 20-25 ft range [top], Monday 10-15 ft, Tuesday 10 ft, wind will be factor on the big days with WSW wind, but if you know where to go it will be absolutely pumping!”

A dodgy lens Sun Halo or 22 Degree Halo over Dublin this morning.
The ring is caused by sunlight passing through ice crystals in the clouds and projecting elsewhere into the sky. And, at a certain angle (22 degrees), the halo appears.
Crystals, dude.

This is a graphic I did using Met Eireann data analysing whether this summer was the nicest ever.
Very depressingly the data reveals we’ve had one, singular, heatwave since records began in the 40s. Anyone remember 1995?

Sharknado – yet another straight-to-SyFy disaster/monster orgy of goodness.
‘We can’t just wait here for sharks to rain down on us.’
Oh yes you can.
You’ll recall such previous classics as Piranhaconda and Megashark Versus Crocosaurus.

BBC London weather presenter Wendy Hurrell appears to ‘stink-eye’ anchor Riz Lateef after an otherwise summery forecast on the 10 O’Clock News.
All down to technical difficulties, she later explained:
The roll of the eyes was because I had to do the whole forecast without being able to see any graphics – it wasn’t at @RizLateef! #techfail
