At an awards ceremony in the Mansion House [Dublin] last night, the best newspaper ad of 2012 went to Owens DDB for this ad on behalf of Volkswagen Ireland. The winner was selected by judges Matt Fitch and Mark Lewis of BBH London – who created the ‘3 little pigs’ ad for the Guardian.

Last night, Vincent Browne played the Michael Lowry tape from his flash new studio.

On the panel were Sam Smyth, Elaine Byrne and Conor Ryan.

Browne, Smyth, and Byrne have all had legal proceedings set against them by Denis O’Brien.

And it is surely only a matter of time before Ryan gets a ‘letter’.

Listen to the expletive-laden Lowry phonecall here (go to 14.10)..

What you may need to know.

1. We didn’t realize that there had been a Scary Movie 4 (2006). And can’t really remember Scary Movie 3 (2003). Or 2 (2001).

2. The original Scary Movie was a piss-take of Scream (1996). This one does Paranormal Activity (2007), Mama (2013) and Evil Dead (1981), ahead of next month’s remake. Topical!

3. Hey, everybody! It’s Ashley Tisdale from High School Musical!

4. Fourth Sign Of The Movie Apocalypse @ 1’19: Charlie Sheen & Lindsay Lohan have done a movie together.

5. We can’t believe they go a full fifteen seconds before someone gets hit in the nuts.

Not that kind of grass.

Silly.

A quarter of a century later.

Paid for by the EU Broadcasting Union as the interval act for the 1988 Eurovision held in Dublin

They should have lost that sax solo, to be fair.

Twenty five years.

Designer Alex Cornell’s helpful infographic – details of which you’ll be putting into practice sometime soon. He sez:

One of the most complex social situations you will encounter is the 45 seconds that elapse while deciding where to sit for dinner at a restaurant. Your choice should appear natural, unbiased and haphazard if executed properly. Timing is everything. These 45 seconds determine how enjoyable your next 2 hours will be. Once the pieces start to fall into place and people take their seats, your choices narrow. People sit, seemingly at random, and if you don’t take the appropriate measures, you’re inevitably stuck at the least interesting end of the table.
