Under no circumstances will deposits in Irish banks be targeted for a Cypriot-style tax, the Government has insisted.

Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney stressed he was being “clear as crystal” that Irish savings were safe. He made the comments during heated exchanges in the Dáil on the bailout deal for Cyprus, rejected by its parliament but supported by the Irish Government and other euro zone member states.

Ah.

Not good for the gander, then.

Which they hope will help pay for a new ceiling.

Kidding.

Our man in Cork writes:

A fresh box of the buke arrived this afternoon. Jackie and Stephanie said they’re going to have them on display close to the till to catch foreign drunk naive stoned impulse buyers.

Paddy Gilford, of the Irish Defence Forces Veterans’ Association, writes:

Peter Comerford who left the Defence Forces in 1971 and who servd in the 5th Infantry Battalion has died. No relatives can be found. Maybe somebody would have an hour to spare to attend the Mass tomorrow morning.
The Funeral Mass will be held in St Agnes’ church, Crumlin, Dublin, at 11.30am with cremation at Harolds Cross Cemetery at 1pm.
Hopefully somebody will have a bit of time to spare to honour a fallen comrade.
