A new stamp to commemorate the centenary of the founding of Cumann na mBan (The Irishwomen’s Council) tomorrow, April 3.

Anna McHugh writes;

“Designed by Ger Garland, the stamp features Cumann na mBan members driving at the head of the funeral of citizens shot during the Howth arms landing (courtesy of Kilmainham Gaol Museum). Cumann na mBan was a women’s nationalist organisation founded to ‘advance the cause of Irish liberty’. Its constitution provided for the use of force by arms against the Crown Forces in Ireland. Further to Fingal County Council’s vote/veto against a democratically elected Mayor (with executive powers) for Dublin.

SFitzy writes:

“Just thought you might like to post this petition [below] to get [Environment Minister] Phil Hogan to force a plebiscite on a Dublin Mayor. Like a lot of people, I’m pretty pissed off that Fingal is blocking us Dubs from having a say, so would be great if you could spread the word.”

That image turned out to be fake, but the one above from photographer Michael Kelly appears to be the real deal.

Over 400 photos were taken over the course of a day and combined into a single image with some minor liberties taken with the the positioning of certain planes to aid with the composition.
