This afternoon

Heuston Railway Station, Dublin.

Paula Carbozer (top right), from Irish Rail, and Mthi Sydney ( top left) from Dublin Bus launch a new anti-racism campaign on Ireland’s public transport, featuring 100s of commuters “standing in solidarity against racism”.

Over 900 commuters donated their selfies to create the artwork for the campaign.

In fairness.

This afternoon.

Irish based Ryanair pilots who are members of the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association have voted overwhelmingly to back industrial action.

The union said it would write to management early next week to outline plans for action unless the airline agrees to union pay proposals by Monday.

It says the airline is in a healthy financial position and can fairly reward its pilots.

Meanwhile….

Ryanair is taking legal action against outgoing chief operations officer Peter Bellew, who is continuing to work out his notice at the Irish airline.

It emerged last month that rival carrier Easyjet had poached Mr Bellew from Ryanair and that he was leaving the Irish airline at the end of this year.

Free Saturday, August 17?

Why not celebrate Woodstock in the midlands.

Johnny Keenan writes:

Calling All Activists & Artists! When we think of Woodstock we ultimately think of peace, love, understanding, respect and honesty, via the art of Rock N’ Roll.

It’s very fitting then that on the 50th anniversary of Woodstock (to the day) should be celebrated In a Discovery Park in the middle of Ireland.

Offaly Good Vibes endeavor to celebrate and emulate in some small way the spirit of Woodstock, by creating “Offaly Good Stock” on Saturday 17th August 2019 12pm – 8pm Lough Boora Discovery Park, Co Offaly, Ireland.

All that we ask is you bring an open mind and open heart with a packed lunch.

AND Please dress appropriately in Woodstock Garb.

“sup?

The IPCC concluded that eating less meat, especially in developed countries, and reducing food waste was an effective method to help reduce global warming. It predicts this action would save millions of square kilometres of land being degraded by farming.

The findings led to calls on the Government from climate campaigners and the Green Party to draw up a national land-use plan to help redirect agriculture and to set out how afforestation could help reduce carbon emissions..

Well.

It’s a start.

August is a good time of the year to see Jupiter. Just after sunset, it’s the brightest object in its section of the south-eastern sky. So what’s going on here, then?

The featured image was taken about a month ago from the Persian Gulf. The image shows Jupiter just to the right of the nearly vertical band of the central disk of our Milky Way Galaxy. The unnamed rock formations appear in projection like the jaws of a giant monster ready to engulf the Jovian giant. When you see Jupiter, it may be interesting to know that NASA’s robotic Juno spacecraft is simultaneously visiting and studying the giant planet. Saturn is also visible this month, and although it is ‘nearby’ Jupiter, it is not as bright.
