A animated cacophony of musical anecdotes animated by Miloš Tomic inspired by a conversation overheard on a bus where a young musician admitted facing her cello into traffic when crossing the road, in the hope that, if she was hit, the instrument would be smashed up first.

Regular ‘vodcasts’ with creatives.
Jerry O’Dwyer writes:
I started this series over a month ago where I interview people from around the world in various creative fields.
I have Just finished one on [photographer, filmmaker and Broadsheet regular] Donal Moloney (top). which was rather entertaining…

Behold: the emission nebula NGC 2359 – a whopping winged lid (if that’s what you see) almost 30 light years across. To wit:
In fact, the helmet is more like an interstellar bubble, blown as a fast wind from the bright, massive star near the bubble’s centre inflates a region within the surrounding molecular cloud. Known as a Wolf-Rayet star, the central star is an extremely hot giant thought to be in a brief, pre-supernova stage of evolution. NGC 2359 is located about 15,000 light-years away in the constellation of the Great Overdog. The remarkably sharp image is a mixed cocktail of data from broadband and narrowband filters using three different telescopes. It captures natural looking stars and the details of the nebula’s filamentary structures. The predominant bluish hue is strong emission from doubly ionized oxygen atoms in the glowing gas.

James O’Reilly was jailed for 20 years for the repeated rape and sexual abuse of his seven daughters – pictured outside the Central Criminal Court this morning (above) – and a younger sister over a 23-year period.
This morning/afternoon
Afterwards, [O’Reilly’s] daughters urged other victims of abuse, particularly those in the travelling community, to speak up, come forward and report abuse.
They also asked where was the protection from the State authorities when they were defenceless, vulnerable children forced to live on the fringes of Irish society.
They questioned if this would have been allowed to continue for so long if it had been a respected settled family in Ireland.

This afternoon.
What now?
Via RTÉ:
All three parties will hold a postal vote because of the Covid-19 restrictions. And while all three have a hard sell to secure membership approval, it is widely expected that the Green Party faces the toughest challenge to get backing for entering government.
Primarily, that is because of the high bar set by its rules, which demand a 66% endorsement from members entitled to vote….
…There are currently around 3,000 members and around 2,200 will definitely have a vote, with another 300 to 400 possibly entitled to complete a ballot.
This influx of new members has made it difficult to read the mood of the electorate, according to insiders.
Former party general secretary Stiofán Nutty said the new intake has mixed views, with some new members particularly radical.
Gulp.

Excerpts From the Programme for Government published this afternoon
‘Red On Green’ writes:
Surprised to see Eamon Ryan has no issue with the National Broadband Plan, according to the draft programme for government. Green members must see this is a very questionable deal at best, not least because it once again rewards Denis O’Brien with a state contract….
