Ham Sandwich – Electro-Wave

“Do you still feel like your life’s a Saturday night?”

Welcome back Ham Sandwich. Three years after their last single, Niamh (top), Podge and Brian return with a killer synth confection that beams us straight back to circa 1982. I’m not complaining!

Podge writes:

“Our main objective with Electro~Wave is to really explore unfamiliar territory vocally for us making our regular sound almost robotic in its delivery. Another was to try out out a punchier approach to our writing which we felt really suited us live with our previous single Bodies.”

And not forgetting the state-of-the-art video animation by Barry Chapman and Philip Donegan. Also, Niamh’s nifty face paint is by make-up artist Yvonne McDonald.

Look for a new album next year.

‘My Hope For Christmas’ by Lily Areeya Maher

This afternoon.

Jilly McDonough writes:

Lily Areeya Maher aged 12 from Donabate, Co. Dublin was the chosen winner by head judge Bryan Dobson from around 5,000 entries to the annual RTÉ news2day art competition and will turn on the Christmas lights at RTÉ this Friday.

Lily’s winning picture will be donated to the National Library of Ireland’s Special Collections Archive for permanent preservation after the competition.

The theme this year was ‘My Hope for Christmas’ and Lily’s winning picture details hopes to see her grandparents safely, to play with friends without having to social distance, to travel abroad without having to be tested beforehand, and a hope that Covid-19 be under control so that health-workers can relax.

On RTÉ’s news2day on Friday at 4:20pm, Lily will be turning on the Christmas lights with news2day‘s Mícheál O’Scannáil.

Karen Morgan writes:

For both Garth Brooks and Mayo, the dream of five headline performances at GAA HQ lives on, but it could remain an Unanswered Prayer.

With residents primed to protest (again) Paddy Power released odds of 6/4 that all five gigs DON’T go ahead.

And in tandem with their billboard, Paddy Power announced they are also taking bets on the seemingly cursed Mayo footballers to dump Dublin out of the 2022 Senior Football Championship…again.

Hon Mayo.
