A collection of original WW2 British propaganda posters currently accepting bids at David Lay Auctions. Most guide prices are between £30 and £200 but the one on the top left (£800 – £1000 guide) is the most valuable. To wit:

ABRAM GAMES 1914-1996 “Blonde Bombshell” WWII ATS Recruitment Poster Printed for HM Stationery Office by Fosh & Cross Ltd. 1941 73 x 48.5cm Note: When this poster was first issued, Games was criticised for making the design ‘too glamorous’ and it was withdrawn. Games went on to design the official stamp for the 1948 Olympic games and the emblem for the 1951 Festival of Britain.

Chaoitic scenes outside Coolock Garda Station, Dublin tonight (above) following the detention of three irish Water protestors this afternoon in Santry (Top video).

The two men and one woman were detained during The Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s earlier visit to Santry [for a meeting with Denis O’Brien], where anti-water charge protesters heckled him as he arrived. They have since been released and Gardaí say they are no longer at the station, however the protest continued.
Gardaí confirmed that a crowd gathered outside, and that the road by the station was closed for a time and diversions were in place.

The National Museum, Kildare Street, Dublin  this evening.

The IDA [Industrial Development Authority] Night at The Museum, a Web Summit fringe event.

Emily writes:

Bono told the approving/adoring audience that “This place” (National Museum, which is under threat of closing) is “impressive even by my rockstar megalomaniac standards”. He compared his “small man syndrome” to the one Ireland has in terms of ‘punching above our weight’, etc.,. He sang a bit of Elvis., charmed everyone and called out Enda’s mobile number….

“Recent polls show that while support for Marriage Equality is at its highest among young people, over one third of people aged between 18 and 25 are not registered to vote. Therefore, they cannot give that all important tick to equality. Today, along with our Taoiseach, we are urging every single young person in the country to check the register.
“As President of Young Fine Gael, a proud member of the LGBT community and as a citizen of this country, I will proudly be working over the coming few weeks to register as many people as Young Fine Gael can on campuses all over Ireland. Simply put, I just want the same opportunity to marry the person I choose to love as everybody else and I hope that young Ireland can help achieve this.”

Telly’s Brian Ormond Dale McDermott, President of Young Fine Gael.

Suzanne and Joe write:

We are an Irish husband and wife team who set up Inspire Stone in January 2013. We are based in Firhouse and run our craft business from our dining room table…Suzanne being the inspire part and Joe the stone part. Suzanne for her love of uplifting inspirational writers, quotes, etc. and Joe because he is 6th generation stone mason.

Due to the recession Joe’s stone masonry business had to fold because of the lack of work and in order to pay the bills he has been working as a courier for the past few years. Whilst walking in our local park St Enda’s we were looking at the folly Ogham Stone there and thought what a wonderful Celtic script and from there we began including Ogham script for inspirational words…

We have a range of perfect stocking fillers and gifts at our website [link below]…Thank you
