colourcars

Neatfreak filmmaker Cy Kuckenbaker explains:

The source footage for this video is a 4-minute shot from the Washington Street bridge above State Route 163 in San Diego captured at 2:39pm Oct 1, 2013. My aim is to reveal the color palette and color preferences of contemporary San Diego drivers in addition to traffic patterns and volumes. There are no CG elements, these are all real cars that have been removed from one sample and reorganized.

Cy’s previous two ‘studies’ (which you should peruse without delay if you like the cut of his jib) involve composite videos of planes landing and departing at San Diego International airport.

How he did it.

Dr Lara Dungan, above, will be hosting a welcome seasonal science series ‘Science is Everywhere’ from 6-7pm on New Years Eve AND New Years Day on Newstalk 106108fm.

Catherine (from the show’s makers Athena Media) sez:

Science is Everywhere seeks to provoke curiosity and unpack the science in everyday life and answer questions like ‘how in a country with so much rain can we have a problem with clean water? Each episode is driven by questions and scientific experiments which seek to answer those questions like Professor Shane Bergin at Trinity College Dublin who uses his laboratory to demonstrate why the doppler effect can explain both the expanding universe and the redness of Rudolf’s nose…

Neil Turner (of the Broadsheet Windows Phone app and Bus Nearby) has released his latest Windows Phone app, Fuel Nearby.

Using data from Pumps.ie, it lets you know the price of petrol and diesel as well as the services available in stations close to your current location.

It also lets you save your favourite so you don’t have to go searching for them.

It’s available now on the Windows Phone App Store for free (and with a promise of no ads or in-app purchases in the future).

For iOS and Android users, there are existing apps (by other developers) available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Do you have an Irish app? Broadsheet@broadsheet.ie

simonbeck14 simonbeck13 simonbeck12 simonbeck11 simonbeck9 simonbeck7 simonbeck6simonbeck5Every year, British artist and engineer Simon Beck embarks on a large scale art project – tromping through the pristine snow near his home at Les Arcs ski resort in France – creating elaborate geometric patterns much to the delight of ski-lift passengers dangling nearby.

A new winter season approaches. This sequence of photographs was taken earlier this year before the snow melted.
