Further to our stream of coinsciousness post earlier:
A €10 silver coin being offered for sale to the public in honour of James Joyce by the Central Bank tomorrow contains a misquote from the author.
The line used on the coin from Chapter 3 of Ulysses includes superfluous conjunction – a rogue ‘that’ – spotted this afternoon by RTE
Joyce wrote:
“Ineluctable modality of the visible: at least that if no more, thought through my eyes. Signatures of all things I am here to read.”
The Central Bank coin reads:
“Ineluctable modality of the visible: at least that if no more, thought through my eyes. Signatures of all things that I am here to read.”
Designed by Cobh, Co Cork, artist Mary Gregoriy, the coin will retail at a commemorative €46.
Relax.
It’s Joyce.
No one’s going to read it.
Etc.

I know you don’t normally do this, but I found this bag of books in the basket of a Dublin Bike I just rented today from Exchequer Street (the Coke is mine) at around 5.30pm. It has a receipt with a guy’s name on it (Anthoney Hanrahan) and he bought them in Chapters last Sunday evening, 7 April, at 6.19pm.
I would’ve dropped them into Chapters but I had to rush for a bus. Maybe someone knows Anthoney (that’s how it’s spelt); if so, I’d like to reunite him with his books.
There goes the neighbourhood.
The start of building work on the first McDonald’s (Creating 78 McJobs) in Dublin’s cultural quarter today, in the space vacated by Frankie Dettori’s steakhouse.
Needs more golden arch.
