U-turning US troop carrier from Shannon. This is a highly unusual maneuvere. Not a mechanical fault as would have landed already….Flight path was cleared to Greece. U-turn saw it overflying US Ramstein base

On October 5, the Seanad voted on a motion calling on the Irish Government to reject provisional application of CETA (Canadian version of TTIP.)
This means the Irish parliament became the first parliament in the world to take a vote on CETA. Which sounds impressive.
What sounds even more impressive, the motion passed! (By one vote.)
I’m wondering though, what does it mean? What effect does passing this motion ultimately have?
Anyone?

Might any of your readers know what the hell was going on last night at about 1am in Dublin 8? It was the largest amount of police/emergency vehicle sirens I have ever heard and it went on for a very long time.
I’m not talking a few cars, I’m talking multiple cars and vehicles screaming through the area for a sustained amount of time. A lot of people on twitter were wondering what was going on.
No exaggeration, I actually thought some major terrorist attack had happened or something. I was surprised to say the least when there was nothing on the news about it this morning.

Pat Kenny and Colette Fitzpatrick are to host a new current affairs show every Wednesday night on TV3
Further to the launch of TV3’s Autumn schedule.

Can any of your readers working in television explain why TV3 now wishes to copy RTÉ in the area of current affairs. The Vincent Browne show was genuinely innovative…but we really don’t need a Prime Time lite…How Pat Kenny and Colette Fitzpatrick could be seen as an alternative to what we are getting already on RTÉ is beyond me….
Anyone?
UPDATE:
Turlough adds:
I’m not having a go at Colette who seems very nice…

Taking the children to Dundalk [European Champions League) match tonight. They’re really psyched because they’ll be out past their bedtime but we don’t know any Dundalk songs or chants (family-appropriate or otherwise). What do we need to know going into the big match? Is there anything online? We want to represent.
PS. Adult tickets = 15 squids, kids are a fiver. When I initially went onto Ticketmaster none were initially available but it looks like they may still be releasing blocks.

From top: Dubai and Dublin

August 2007: Started as engineer with current employer (various role changes and small promotions followed over the years).
April 2016: Decided I would leave to pursue a different (dream) career by doing a two-year full-time course that begins in Dublin in September. Would remain in job until then.
May 2016: Applied, interviewed, and got accepted for above course.
9am, end June 2016: At work, was asked to apply for a lucrative role, large promotion in Middle East as I had the most suitable knowledge base in the company.
9:02am, end June 2016: Head in spin.
Mid-July 2016: Decided to go for promotion and put off the dream job prospect.
Every day since: Changed mind.
Mid-July 2016: Interviewed for promotion
Last 24 hours: Decided finally on the course in Dublin.
9am, this morning: Informed boss.
9:30am: Received meeting invite from HR in Middle East to congratulate me on being the successful candidate and would like to discuss packages, etc.
9:33am to present: Head in spin again.
I’ve stuck with my decision and have since informed the hiring manager in the Middle East and HR manager here. I’m 32 next month, no kids and no mortgage. I’m leaving a well-paid role in an industry I really don’t care about to probably make a net personal loss over the next five years, in pursuit of my dream career – moving from engineering to creative – moving to Dublin, rather than Dubai, from somewhere else in Ireland.
Am I crazy?
Can your balanced and considered readers please inform me if I am crazy? Any advice or experiences to share now that I’ve made the decision?
Anyone?
