Responding to Nphet’s recommendation of a 5pm curfew…

Restaurants Association of Ireland Chief Executive Adrian Cummins said there needs to be immediate engagement with Government because the industry is in a “very precarious position” with Christmas a number of days away.

It is effectively “a hospitality lockdown” if the recommendation from NPHET is taken on board by Government, he said.

Mr Cummins also said this latest proposal brings into question the Covid digital pass and all the other different measures hospitality has brought in to ensure they keep their businesses open.

Vintners’ Association of Ireland Chairperson Michael O’Donovan said it would have a major impact and said the industry has been fighting very hard all summer and autumn to get their teams back up and running.

This would be a real hammer blow because it would be closure for many.”

A Spanish court on Thursday lifted a coronavirus curfew imposed on most of Catalonia, including the capital Barcelona, leaving it in place in just a fraction of the northeastern region.

Catalonia’s government in mid-July imposed a nightly curfew between 1:00 am and 6:00 am in most municipalities to fight a surge in virus cases, and the region’s top court then gave the green light to extend it three times.

But on Friday, faced with a request by the regional government to keep the curfew in place in 148 municipalities, the High Court of Justice of Catalonia said the measure was “not justified” in 129 of them, because infection rates there had improved.

This afternoon.

Via The Local:

Barcelona and other cities in Spain’s northeastern Catalonia region will impose a night-time curfew starting this weekend to fight a surge in virus cases after the measure won court approval.

The curfew is intended to discourage social gatherings on beaches and in parks to curb a spike in cases of the highly-contagious Delta variant, especially among unvaccinated young people.

The region’s top court on Friday signed off on the measure, which will affect a total of 161 municipalities, including popular beach resorts like Sitges and Salou.

Catalonia, the epicentre of Spain’s jump in infections, has already ordered all public gatherings to finish by 12:30am and restricted gatherings to no more than 10 people.

Wales First Minister Mark Drakeford has rowed back on men-only curfews

This afternoon.

Welsh first minister Mark Drakeford today insisted he wouldn’t consider bringing in local curfews for men to make women feel safer on the streets at night – after suggesting they could be used in a “crisis”.

He clarified there is no intention of ever introducing a ban on men going out in the evening, just hours after leaving the door open to such “dramatic action” if necessary.

Anyone?

The Central Hostel in Miltown Malbay, Co Clare; and a notice from the owner Pat Kelly to a number of asylum seekers currently living in the hostel

Sarah Clancy tweetz:

The stupidest thing about this curfew for want of a better word is that the Central Hotel has a pub downstairs! I presume the customers in the pub haven’t got to be in bed by 10 like children on a school night..that’s just asylum seekers.
